I always thought they asked to allow you to give a legitimate reason. Leading questions are not illegal, they just narrow down all the possible bullsh!t answers.

No it's only to get you to admit you knew you were speeding, saves them time, specially in court if your thinking of fighting it.

BUT in saying that, any car can be used as an emergency vehicle in an emergency situation.

Best bullsh*t deflectors IMO are a modicum of honesty and passing the attitude test.

At least you are in with a chance, unless stupidity is in order. Then you are gooooorne

Generally speaking the Coppers I have come across seem to be fair. Had more than my fair share of warnings

and also my share of fair tickets.( we shall not speak of Johs army on making the streets safeomg1.gif )

Its the overtaking over broken lines and spending as little time as possible in the oppositions lane and getting a ticket

that gets me. eg. Where on the New England Highway do you have a K or so of clear road to mince past at 105kph ?

Still speeding yep. Where are the road upgrades and stringent regulations pertaining to house trailers farkincrybaby.gif

If any of you guys work in CBD sydney take a look at some of the cars parked on St James Rd. Theres a police only parking section where all the unmarked cop cars park. Couple of weeks ago I saw some sort Daihatsu SUV there, you can see the lights at the back window and at the front. Last car in the world you would worry about if you were going to gun it at the lights. It's part of their new strategy to blend in. But a lot of these cops wont do anything about traffic issues. Depends on the cop.

Last friday was sitting at the lights going through chinatown and out of no where a sh*tty old land cruiser came flying through the traffic, lights and sirens going off, and inside two big guys wearing bullet proof vests.. One of them on the two-way radio. Not ordinary coppers.

Can you pick the police car? | The Daily Telegraph

Had a similar story to this one about street racing, only in my case it was a one lane road and I was sitting behind this other car. Out of no where an unmarked car flies up behind me, my heart dropped to my guts cos I thought it was highway patrol. Turned out to be two uniformed coppers in an unmarked car driving in the opposite direction. The car that was in front of me slowed down about 100 meteres ahead and then slowly drove away when he realised the coppers werent going to stop him. They gave me an earful but I didnt admit anything. Worse thing you can do is admit to it, cos theres no way you can fight it later. Anyway they just wanted to make me feel small, but they didnt give me any fines. They said they would but at the end of the day theyre not highway patrol so a lot of them dont pursue it.

Drove like a granny for about a month after that, even now I dont take anywhere near the same sort of risks.

While I hate the rules, I can throw them a bone since it does slow a lot of people down who need to slow doen. My mates sisters got killed in a rexy about a year ago in Sydney. Was in the news at the time. Her boyfriend was racing someone and showing off and lost it around a corner. I got a glimpse of how it impacted him and his family... Not good.

MY admittance to doing way over the speed limit on a forum is the least of my worries. My number plate and details are now plastered on the wall somewhere in my local police station in the "watch this guy, if he stuffs up again, throw the book at him" section. I'll be taking it easy from here on in.

Any cop that has enough time to trawl through all the car forums out there, find this story, somehow figure out who I am, trace my address, and then arrest me on that basis of a "confession" on a forum that cannot be proved beyond reasonable doubt, should be sacked.

As for me, I have learnt my lesson. I'll stick to the legal dragways from here on in. Victory in a street race is not worth the 3 month suspension that follows...

f*ck that's nothing. In NSW it's automatic 12 months suspension minimum. They confiscate your car for 3 months on the spot no questions asked. They make you pay for towing the vehicle away. And before they let you walk home they will give you a court date right there and then. When you come up against the magistrate you'll cop a $3000 fine and a conviction for life. If they catch you again they take your car and have it crushed.

You're right about "confessing" on the internet.. There's no way it could be used against you. But people who post up videos doing burnouts while showing their numberplates do get busted.

I reckon the real reason they want to confiscate cars is so they can use them as unmarked vehicles like the ones we've been discussing. No one's gonna complain if they target "hoons", that way they always have several hundred cars in circulation they didn't have to pay for. Apparently when they confiscate your car they "reserve the right" to use it for police matters.
