Guys he's got a BA, no spark retardation as far as I know. It was introduced in FG. It might be over boosting and pinging due to a free flowing exhaust.

I'd recommend taking it for a tune as soon as possible and in the mean time keep it in the lower half of the rev range, otherwise you risk it going bang.

Yes that is correct hence my comment that there might be a tune issue. I would be gettin it looked at. It may be leaning out up top.

Rhino,

The burrp will just get louder once you have a tune. I'm be getting more mods on monday including exhaust so mine is only going to sound better, nice.

Thanks for the info Benny and Matty. When I get her tuned up, will it still do this cause I love the sound? It reminds me of an off-its-tits rally car :finger:

I think you are refering to anti-lag in the rally car. As far as I know it was only done once to an xr6t and they called it hiroshima. Its done by retarding the timing on closed throttle (foot is off but butterfly is still open) to keep the turbo boosting.

Not sure about fg but in b series the popping is unburnt fuel being dumped into the turbo if temps of around 900c and over are reached. It its done to cool the turbo but the fuel still ignites. This is why there is a black puff of smoke. Ford put it in and cappa took it out of their generic tune. that's why most people running them are cracking their exhaust housings (happened to me).

It is a good thing to have and you can avoid the power loss by practicing your shifting.

Cheers,

Paul

So what your saying is that its not healthy for the car and by capa taking it out in their tune is a better option to undertake?

Cheers

Actually the exact opposite. I made the mistake of running I generic tune for too long and paid for it. Black puffs of smoke are good. Blue puffs are bad. Although I am sure a tuner would be able to explain it 1000x better then I have.

since I had my fg ute tuned it doesnt make the burb noise, but if I flash it back to stock it does it, I like the sound any ideas as to why?

hey dude, that would be a question for the tuner. the best thing to do is to sit him down and go through the tune and what has been added and taken out. some tuners are secretive about this stuff but if hes a good bloke he will be more than happy to go through it all.

my exhaust also pops alot... 6 speed BF MKII

I am running the std exhaust with a straight through 2 x 2.5" muffler and 2.5" resonators at the rear, pops heaps off throttle and down shifting....

it did it on the std tune with no other mods.

it also did it on the generic 8psi tune with cooler and intake

now ive had it custom tuned with cooler, injectors, cat, intake, and it has had no effect at all on the popping....

my afrs are at about 12.5, im making 270rwkw on 8psi....

it runs like a dream when im on the throttle, its off throttle when it pops...

if I leave it in gear and let the car roll (no throttle), itll continuosly pop and crackle till I come to a stop.... is this what other people are experiencing?
