Mate,

Sorry no sleep over the past week really have left me, well short of advise on a few occasions!

TBH I didnt really read your first post - just saw the list of degrees and thought... hhhmmm smartie - medical - science... what to do for work??? (SAVE LIVES)!!!

Sorry!!!

Ok, having been in recruitment in a senior capacity about 2 yrs ago - I can tell you 100% that the guys are right - not all roles are advertised.

Out of those that are - in real terms only about 25% will be filled from candidates looking on places such as seek, flicking in there CV, and then getting an interview, all the way through to placement.

Out of the remaining 75% of roles on seek, 50% out of the 100 would be fake/database building/or old roles being reposted to recruit CV. The other 25% are roles mixed with 50/50 budgets where the role will prob be pulled from a companies head count, dead dopey recruiters that have no relationship with the company what so ever and well who knows what else.

The 25% that is AOK - is where the money is... that's still millions of heads to be sold off each and every year!!!

Best thing is to find the 'cream rec companies' in her field and work with a few of those.

She doesnt want a donkey rec to "flick and stick" her CV - or she may as well just end up finding a corner at the X and trying to make money that way... "Reverse Marketing" people and CV's is total bullsh*t and only there for KPI numbers. On the odd chance a "floated" candidate may find a role, it prob wont last the 3-6 months required for a recruiter to make any real money anyways... So beware!

"Floating a CV" is nothing other then "Prostituting a CV" / "Flick and Stick"...

Find a few companies she is interested in working for - call there HR department directly find out who the "Preferred suppliers of staff" are (or companies with PSA - Preferred Supplier agreements) and work with a handful of those!

Go to as many interviews as she can, and if there ISN'T a JD (job description) then there probably is a 95% chance there isn't a real job!

She needs to make sure that the CV stands out from the other 200 the rec and HR department gets from candidates, if she can call the company/recruiter beforehand just to touch base. Recruiters cant stand getting bullsh*t CV's from people that are just applying to either hit Centerlink requirements of applications to collect there 250$ a fortnight, but at the same time they dont have time to sit on the phone for 10mins to every candidate either.

So if she can - give them a call, say "HI" and then apply - if for not other reason then to just mention her name so when the CV pops up they may remember her and take a second look, or if a rec or hr manager has time to chat on the off chance.

Try to speak with management any where possible - HR Depts are 'generally' just dummies as well and full of people that 'wish' they could have landed the job... They look for the usual 'pre sceening' crap but have very little idea what is actually required when it comes to a candidate for a role...

Recruiters are exactly the same - the good one have actually spent years in the industry they specialize in and know exactly what is needed.

Stick to those ones!

If you want to PM me, I can have a chat with you some how and take a 'general' look at her CV if she wants some 'general' advise on structure and content...

As for the right job...

hhhmmm

I'm in IT so I got nothing when it comes to science or health... all I remember was how much fun it was to blow sh*t up in science class and play with the Bunsen burner and as for health - wear a rubber if not your a fool... "AIDS KILLS SO DONT BE SILLY, STICK THAT CONDOM ON YOUR WILLY"

:spoton:

hope this helps..

maybe she would invent a tablet for people like me that work and live off only 1-2 hours sleep a morning!

With those quals, what about a forensic DNA technician/scientist at the Perth equivalent of here Forensic and Scientific Services: Forensic Sciences

Could be a cushy government position with the typical perks, but need to have the mettle to handle some of the nasty cases and evidence.

If she is interested in sales and marketing you could think about a career in pharmaceuticals. Having been in the industry for over 10 years and worked through both the sales and marketing groups it is a pretty good life. I suggest sales in the first instance as most further jobs of Sales or Marketing management generally require you to have 'carried the bag'for a period of time.

Just a suggestion if she is looking outside of clinical research and laboratory work.

She could get a job as a medical pathologist:

Bactereology or biochemistry in pathology lab, but the pay is pretty lame.

(I worked in a path lab in Canberra before I went to Uni)

Biochemists were all geeks who spent thier time looking after a big machine..

Haematologists were slightly less odd, though a tad vampiric

Histologists spent thier time staring down microscopes at pap smears and were mostly old women...

Bacteriologists were the best, they played with poo and swabs from every bodily oriface,

they had the best sense of humor...
