Hey guys,

Just looking if I could have a few tips thrown my way. Looking for a BA turbo ute. Found 1 that looks to have a good body and fairly low km's at 110,000 for an 03. Is it just luck when you come across problems with the turbo or engine or is there an average age where the turbo eventually gives in?

Also anything you think I should know before buying, going to be my first turbo and just wanting some info on what to look out for before purchasing.

Cheers!

If you not planning on modding it it should be an ok buy. What sort of $$ are they asking.

If you are after a manual try and get a MKII with the 6 speed manual as the 5 speed in the MkI doesnt like power increases

Found one for 16k. Was priced at over 19 but Was above my budget. Like I said body looks real nice no mods. I'm not looking at any major mods probably just cat back. Is it worth getting an nrma inspection or does anyone know of something similar in Sydney? Cheers guys!Btw I'm going for the auto.

When buying a BA with over 100k on it make sure you put a couple of grand aside to fix all the upcoming brake and suspension problems.

And I'd take it to a trusted mechanic rather then get a NRMA/RACV test.

Look out for brake shudder and steering pull under moderate to hard braking.

Listen very carefully for any sort of clunking sound no matter how minor when taking off slowly from a standstill, this could be cause by loose diff mounts, suspension wear. Have a close look at the power steering pump and the power steering lines going to the pump, make sure there is no serious p/s fluid residue or leaks (very common problem). Check out the rims, if you can tell they've been on the car for a while check for gutter - smack marks (not light scrapes, but large rough spots which have flattenend the rim to a point) you'll be able to tell whether the previous owner was partial to the odd drifting session this way. And as with any car, have a close look at paint colour matching between panels, to tell if it has been in an accident and repaired. Nothing wrong with buying a car which has been hit and repaired as long as it has been done properly.
