Today the car developed a problem. I gave it a little stick and was accelerating and it was like I hit the rev limit, the car stopped accelerating however I was only at ~3500 rpm. Car felt strange it was running however had little power, like the handbrake was on so I pulled over into a bus lane and the car just stalled. It started again instantly, It drives and idles fine however when under a little load and the turbo kicks in you can hear the exhaust cough and loose power. If you accellerate smoothly / slowly it does accelerate to 5,000 rpm OK. I have looked at all the major large pipes around the cross over, turbo and intercooler and it seems all connected. Any ideas, Stock BA with hotdogs and F6 intercooler.

just gave it another run in lower temps as it was 30 deg today. It held boost for a while longer, very quick then again ~4,000 rpm lost boost and could hear an exhaust fluter. Its not the same noise as the BOV when you back off.

Where is the boost solenoid, can I test it ?

f6 cooler , hot dogs standard tune ? do you have a boost gauge is the car over boosting maybe how long have you had these problems is it only since fitting the cooler

as already stated id be looking at plugs , coil packs , maybe even fuel pressure and dare I say it but it sounds like value springs to me as already stated is the car tuned

when you say you can hear the exhaust cough im thinking maybe its a small lean out back fire and if is that's a really bad thing if not fixed in a hurry

cheers trev

as said could be over boost which in turn is causing the valve springs to fail if it runs rough and stalls after it plays up also could be a throttle body issue too.

Hope this helps Neil

I'll see if I can get someone to take a quick look at the error codes tomorrow, although day before cup day may be difficult. I did WD40 the boost solenoid however no change. As I can't find the coils I believe they are under the cover on the rocker cover ?

I assume over boost would be registered in the ECU as a fault, what about coil trouble does anybody know if that gets logged ?

Yeah mate, they are under the cover on the rocker cover. Not a big job, just the allen key under the firewall is an arse to get out.

Take them out and do a close look for hairline cracks. They can be put back in any order, so don't worry too much about getting them mixed up.

New genuine ones can be had off fleabay for about $180 delivered

The cars done 120k and the plugs got changed 10k ago so by all accounts the coils will not be lasting a life time from what I have read. So I bit the bullet and have orderd 6 new FORD coils. I'll fit them on Thursday in the hope they fixes the problem, if not its gotta go to the doctor !.
