I was looking into this for a little bit and my idea was to have a two way solenoid off the washer bottle so I could direct it to the windscreen or to the sprays. I was told that the washer bottle pump would have enough pressure to properly mist the water onto the intercooler. I should give it a trial while I have the bumper off....

Things I was also looking into was the hobbs pressure switch as mentioned before, to allow the sprays to come on via boost, aswell as putting a toggle switch in parallel for manual operation. CAPA also did a tank for their water to air intercooler setups that sat in front of the driver's side front wheel.

I like your idea but not sure if it will help with those long drives, as someone said it's probably general heat soak in the engine bay rather than your IC.

Regardless, if you decide to do it keep in mind you need proper sprayers, windscreen washers will not do the job as it will only be poring water on to the IC which is not very efficient, in order to cool it the water needs to be sprayed as mist.

That article describes using a coffee machine pump or thermoblock pump. Most of them run at 15bar or 220psi. That's a fair wack of pressure and has the effect of being able to make the water droplet size very small. But as the article describes, you need an inverter to run them at 240v.

the coffee machine pumps look the goods. I can probably get them quite cheap if people are keen for prices (I personally won't be doing this mod though) . that article didn't stress the importance of mechanical protection for your 240v cabling!!!!

I agree. It would be more beneficial to change your under bonnet piping first. That crossover is just going to re-heat whatever you've cooled down in your IC with water anyhow.

we did this on the dyno on my fg with a stock intercooler and pick up about 12rwkw by spraying the cooler with a fine mist of water (have now orderd a HDI INTERCOOLER :stirthepot::stirthepot: )

I have just about finished my proto type using a nissan patrol washer bottle it hold about 4lts of water and has twin washer motors fitted which are running in to one hose and 4 sprayer 2 on the side and 2 on the top but this may change to it im just trying a few type of spary jet to find the right mist will have it hooked up to a hobbs switch and set at about 10psi I will post up some photo of it when its finished
