I'm gonna swim against the tide a little here.....well ok, a lot.

I bought a BA without even being aware of these forums and the wealth of knowledge here. I bought it at tender and the price was right. I drove a BF2 not long after and was gutted.....the ZF really is that good.

But....and here is the but. I have since done brakes, Tein suspension, valve springs and a VERY mild tune as well as worked through some of the niggling issues that the car had and I seriously have no doubt that point to point it would make pretty light work of a standard BF.

I know that's not strictly comparing apples with apples but if your immediate budget is a factor (and it sounds as if it is) then it should be possible to find a relatively standard BA that has already had valve springs done and build on that as your budget permits.

As for something that'll show a clean pair of heels to a VY SS...any healthy T should manage that, the only thing that will vary is how much by.

I do know of a friend who bought a BA T for about 20k from Titan's here in Perth recently if that helps budgeting at all!

hahah ive actually thought of flying tiger for like 100 bucks and driving it back cos P platers are bailing on their turbos cheap cos of the new laws.

New laws don't apply to people who got their licences before they came in, so they wouldn't be selling them for that reason.

And if you want auto I can't think why you would want a BA, the ZF in the BF is just heaps better. If manual you can get the 6sp in the BA Mk II so that's an option.

And $4.5k for insurance, geez, that's more than I was quoted for a F6 Typhoon and you're a day older than me. I got a quote from AAMI and NRMA around the $2200 mark without flexipremium for a BF (any BF, 2006/2007/2008), what is in your driving history??

I got done for careless driving just after I got my license, would have contested it if I'd known more about road laws as I did absolutely nothing wrong, it was even on cctv proving it, but we wont go there. A few months later I got done speeding cos I got mad that this guy cut me off, (that guy being an undercover policeman) and got done for driving without license because I didn't know careless driving on your Ps means instant suspension for 3 months. So my license history is one big mess atm and insurance is proving to be a huge limiter on what car I drive.

But im determined to get an XR6T.

Im currently looking at a BA MKII 05 with 130KMS for 14,990

This is the cheapest one from a dealer in perth at the moment the cheapest BF is 21,800 which exceeds my finance capabilities a little

I might look at pickles however, they do some cheapies every now and then.
