My BFII has some front caliper rattle. Bloody annoying.

So far, I have fully greased the cradle to caliper mount pins, changed and checked the pads for better ones. They are tight in their respective caliper slots. The hose support grommet is also tight in it's mount.

It looks like it the pistons retract a little too much allowing the caliper to float a couple of mm either way on the pins causing the rattle. The sound is defintely very 'metallic'. Has anyone found a solution that has completely eliminated their rattle?

Get yourself some CRC brake rattle stop, or other high temp silicon. Glue the back of the pad to the pistons and the support cradle on the non piston side. This will stop the rattle :blush:

Are the shims (spelling) still in behind. I had a rattle in my old BA and was told by a bloke the Shims were missing, got some newbies and it seem to do the job.

Thanks for the replies fellas.

I spoke/expressed my dissatisfaction to a Ford spare parts guy I know and he gave some stainless shims/pad abutment pieces and said these were Ford's/PBR's fix. Look like they hold the caliper up off the cradle guide pins that is causing all the rattle.

Will fit them this week and we shall see.......

I had some really stiff custom front springs that I changed to softer ones (Kings std uprated spec spring). I changed them as a handling issue rather than a brake solution, but it did the trick.

There is definitely an issue going on there and I could see that cars with mileage would/could have future issues.

If you had adjustable front shocks, softening the compression damping would definitely help it to abate. ie lower the frequency of the wheel assy. Ultra low profiles may also be a contributing factor, but mine still has the std 17's on it.

Hmmmmm....mounting the calipers on the carriage pins. I think that is where the problem is, because the pads are a snug fit in the body.

If it does rear it's head again, I would definitely fit the anti rattle pads. I know exactly where they are on the bench.....

Mine are pissing me off, but have been to lazy to take the wheels of and see what exactly is rattling but it is the brakes 100% as when you just lightly apply the brakes the rattling stops. Standard suspension on 17s here...

If you find a fix let me know.

Pain in the a$$. Mine has been doing it since I got new front hubs, discs and project Mu pads, does it pedal off or on at all speeds sounds like a stone in the tyre at 100kph bouncing off the walls in the Perth tunnel, bloody annoying. Might be time to get it looked at me thinks
