And what car did he trade it in for, that might make a difference with the pricing?Dealers are selling pre-Oct build XR6T utes brand new for 37-38k. No way he got that price, not in the current environment from a dealer.

I've advertised it around CQ for $38neg. I always try to sell privately before trading it in at the stealership, but have had no luck.if it comes to the crunch and you are chasing a bit more than what the dealer offered you pm me not wanting to make auction of this but I was looking to upgrade mid next year but will be keen on yours if the dealer wants to play silly buggers

I would have thought this would sell really quickly but hasn't. Maybe the market is just a little flat due to interest rates being talked up.Keep positive and keep advertising, anything above the offered trade is a bonus.PeteThat car and most of the others privately advertised have money owing on them so a person would get desperate just to get out the finance deal and would sell at a big loss. Pete A Member 442 Member For: 16y 1m 15d Gender: Male Location: Castle Hill NSW Posted 28/10/09 01:37 AM Share Posted 28/10/09 01:37 AM I've sold a AUII XR8 and a BAII XR8 on the private market and both 4 years old (ex lease) and I've been very happy with both the deals I've got. A dealer offered me 16K for the AU as a trade and I just didn't bother after that. I sold the AU for $24K and the BA for 27K. I have found that the secret to selling privately is to make your car more appealing. I know this is an obvious statement, but there are private buyers out there willing to pay more for something better than run-of-the-mill in 2nd hand performance cars. My neighbour has been trying to sell his 4yr old SS ute for over 4 months. He may be asking too much for it I suppose and I haven't asked him, but I can tell you in my opinion why. It looks like every other black SS ute. Nothing stands out to say "buy me" to the 2nd hand buyer. The car must be spotless and get all the minor damage etc fixed before you sell it. Visual appeal is 50% of the battle selling a car.If possible it has to offer extras - lots of them. Best to fork out the extra when you buy it to make it easier to sell it! Thinks like leather, Premium sound good rubber and wheels. Some colours sell easier than others. The AU was red, and the BA was Mandarine. Dead easy colours to sell in a performance car.Comprehensive service record. As low Km's as possible to state the obvious.A lot of this is obvious but I see so many cars with for sale signs that turn me off just looking at them. The FG should be one of the best price value retention Fords in a long time - it's just that good. Let's see.Hope this helps.

I realise the ins and outs of buying and selling cars. All I was chasing to begin with was a ballpark figure of what people had been offered if anyone had traded one in yet. I got plenty of offers from car yards, but laughable offers, one mob came back with $28k...In the end I got close to what I wanted for it so that's all that matters I suppose. Thanks for the replies all the same
