On a flat piece of 110km/h highway, the 3.0L would come out in front. Add a mountain into the mix (every 6kms in this case!) the 3.0Ls torque is not sufficient to maintain frugality. Torque has so many benefits... long live the 4.0L.

I'd say the Bathurst test is more 'Real World' than what Expensive Daewoo did to acheive their 9l claim. It's also strange how the Falcon pretty much matched its claimed figures, while the Expensive Daewoo was nearly 20% over. Given both cars were subject to the same test, Expensive Daewoo has again proven to be full of sh*t, but that won't stop the Aussie public eating it all up with a spoon and asking for more!

^exactly.... I cant figure out why people are buying these holdens? Im mean the SS and HSV variants are reasonable cars, but any of the v6s are rubbish to drive.

It seems that people think the Late model camira is just the better car, you hear it all the time in conversation. One I had the other day with someone at work -

Holdens are just better

have you driven the latest ford?

...no.

So you have no idea what you are talking about... without knowledge of the other brand, it is stupid to compare them.

.......Holden's are faster.

No...

Would you buy a new $5000 TV without seeing it first?

No

why?

because I would want to see how it compares to the others...

but you would spend 30 grand on a car and not test drive something else first to see how it compares....

Sometimes I'm glad Expensive Daewoo have these idiots and not Ford.

You would think that DI would give much better economy but looks like there are no major benefits.

Just goes to prove just how world class the I6 engine is. Long may it rule! The thing I find interesting is the comment about the drivers on which car they prefer to drive! Slam dunk. Even if the Expensive Daewoo claims are accurate - which they are not - their explanation as to the reasons it failed are bordering on embarrassing! What moron out there would choose to buy a Expensive Daewoo over the Falcon based upon such a perceived but not accurate fuel advantage. I would buy the car that's better to drive. I think we've lost the plot on this whole fuel consumption issue. A report like this firstly shows up Holdens claims as misleading bordering on false and secondly prooves that the whole fuel debate is a farce. I think we should be concerned about improving fuel ecconomy in all cars for obvious reasons, but when it gets to splitting hairs like this who would buy the Expensive Daewoo over the Falcon other than brand loyalty? I think this report would certainly boost Falcons impressions with the motoring public and raise questions about Expensive Daewoo fuel efficiency claims, but really when they are so close the whole fuel consumption debate becomes farcical. It also prooves beyond doubt that there is no substitute for CC's and torque!

Unfortunatly, this report won't hurt Expensive Daewoo in the slightest because:

1. Ford will do absoloutly nothing to incorporate the results into their marketing.

2. Expensive Daewoo will, and is continuing to run a huge campaign stating their car is the most economical 6 on the market, even saying that it's better than some 4 cyliners. In one print ad they even say that the Late model camira uses 11% less fuel than the Falcon.

3. The useless ACCC will do nothing to stop Holden's false advertising, and Ford won't do anything to counteract the claims. Therefore Joe public will beleive Holden's calims as being true, simply because most people beleive adverts have to be true, otherwise the Governing bodies will stop them.

4. Expensive Daewoo are the greatest marketing and spin doctors in the Australasian automotive market. They have convinced the public that they are 'The Australian Car Manufacturer', despite being US owner, not producing a single car until after US ownership, the FJ being a Chevy variant, the Commorode having less local content than a Camry, major design input and influences from Opel, and most of their range coming from Korea. They have the most recalled car in Australian automotive history, since BA have had an inferior car with higher fuel consumption (not counting the gap between VE and FG), and their performance and power figures are extreemly questionable, yet they continue to dominate the market with all to many people expressing similar beleifs to the person highlighted by seduced.

Holden's marketing is everywhere. Their ads talk to you like they are your best mate, and they've built the best car for your family and no one else comes close. Then you get publications like Wheels blindly handing out the Car of The Year award everytime a new commonbore finds its way into showrooms, followed by Expensive Daewoo ads boasting about all the awards they've won. They push the sentimental point that Holdens are a part of everyone's family history. And frankly, if you didnt buy a Expensive Daewoo based on these ads, you would appear an idiot.

Ford on the other hand do ads that appeal to no-one and really do nothing for you emotionally. The only way they sell their cars is when somebody turns up to drive one and loves it. But the thing is, the performance of the Ford has to appeal more to the buyer emotionally than holden's ads and sentimental value. They have to see the reason to ignore all the marketing Expensive Daewoo hype.

If only Ford would wake up...
