Wanting To Turbo My Na...

If you waited and saved your 15 grand, you could've just bought an FG xr6 Turbo.

I wouldn't bother touching an NA. The cost and work far out weighs any gains you'll get. Plus resale will fall, your insurance comapny will send you death threats, your mates will pretend that its a great idea but think you're an idiot, and yoany modded factory xr6t will leave you every time.

Sell the car. Buy a Turbo. Job done. No headaches. Money Saved.

Yep I get your point.

But then I would just have an XR6T.

My goal is to build one of the best sedans in the country. And the FG is one of the best platforms to begin with.

Even if I got the turbo FG/BFmkII I would still want to replace most of the internals, the exhaust, suspension, brakes etc etc So why buy a turbo when I am throwing away most of what I am paying the extra for. And the cheapest FG turbo demo/2nd hand was 42 thou $13,500 large more than what I paid. Theres my 400kw fully balanced/blue print and built motor. Built to take the 400kw and not break or wear out in a month or two.

Just got off the phone to my insurance broker. It would not matter if it was an n/a, a turbo or an f6 they will still bend me over with what I want to do to it. So insurance does not matter. When you mod a car a lot of the cost comes back to you. I have no driving offenses and am an advanced instructor, and it will still cost me around 4 grand a year to cover it. But it's a company car and the company can pay for it. Yes I own the company.

The whole point is it will be my car, built for me, mostly by me. And it will go and look exactly how I think it should. I will be my dream car. And that's what it's all about my friend.

And yes I am planning on spending about another 45 large over the next three years on it to get it where I want it.

I dont need the ego of pulling up in an F6 but I want a car that will smoke one. and frankly I would rather stay under the radar so to speak.

Whatever floats your boat.

In saying that, an xr6t with bolt ons unopened will safely (when tuned right) hit 400kw without too much effort, just remove the turbo badge for your preferred look.

Good luck with it then. Hope you enjoy it.

Yep I have seen the dyno slips.

But what's the life of the motor like? Can it take the punishment of doubling the power it was designed to make??

I dont want a car that's in the shed more than on the road. Or one that goes great for a month then detonates and I have to replace the rods, pistons etc anyway.

that's my big worry and I would rather do it right the first time.

I am NOT looking for a cheap XRT or F6. Personally I prefer the look of the XR to the F6 just a personal thing. Like a car. like a car you build yourself.

It's not the money and yep I will lose bags of it. try buying a new bike each year and then modding it and getting less than half back a year later. It's how the game is played and it's the best game in town.

Did a bit of a ring around to today, not many wreckers have or selling just the bolt on's that I would need to turbo my engine. I kept getting offered complete xr6t engines. Out of curiosity I asked how much... $4.5k. Not sure if that is over top or not?
