I basically bought the car as a daily, but now and getting the bug to tamper with it haha. Im Just wondering how much work it would be to turbo the standard engine that is in there. It had done relativity low kms (80,ooo), so it seems fairly healthy. Is there any major differences between the Turbo and NA motors. Im guessing that the Turbo engines have lower compression? Getting to the point... I want to know weather I should buy all the parts to turbo my engine or buy a turbo wreck and take the running gear out of it. If I was to turbo my engine, would I need to open it up? Or is it common for people to turbo the standard engine without any problems? Im not aiming for big power, just want to make it a bit more fun for the daily duties!Any help and feed back is appreciated. Cheers, Josh.

You can easily strap a turbo manifold to the side of the motor and have it tuned up to run at a low boost if you wanna keep the standard high compression but reliability will come down to the tune. You will also need XRT injectors, crossover pipes, intercooler, exhaust manifold, oil and coolant plumbing for the turbo, I think the radiator is bigger also. You may also need the xr6t ECU or opt for an aftermarket one. You might as well wanna consider an LSD.Its a big effort but it can be done with enough money and time. Guest XR09 Guests Posted 19/10/09 04:49 AM Share Posted 19/10/09 04:49 AM I see this a lotI had the option or budget to get a bfmkII turbo or a demo FG XR6 n/a with the hope of Turboing later. I took the FG just my choice. But I am realistic and wont be touching the motor till I have about 15 large saved. I would have wanted to mod the BF if I got it anyway. And the mods would have been rods, pistons and valve springs. To take the bigger HP Before I played with the bolt on's.I have heard the std crank will take about 900 to 1000 neddies. Is this really true and how fast is that mother spinning to produce those numbers??Can it do this std ??? or should I save some more and have it balanced, new bearings yada yada.I am not looking for HUGE power. I just want it to be fun and be able to take 6 - 10 very hard laps a few times a day once a month, without having to rebuild it every year. seduced Need more power. Now taking donations. The cost and work far out weighs any gains you'll get. Plus resale will fall, your insurance comapny will send you death threats, your mates will pretend that its a great idea but think you're an idiot, and yoany modded factory xr6t will leave you every time.Sell the car. Buy a Turbo. Job done. No headaches. Money Saved.

I agree, Suduced made it very plain and simple. I though id may as well ask, as im not sure how strong the std na motors are (I come from a jap car background hahaha). I guess ill wait for a while, sell up and buy a turbo.Just out of interest ill call a few wreckers tomorrow and find out how much all the parts would be. Id be doing all the work myself, so id be saving a few pennies on labor. Also, ill call a few workshops around here and see if they have turbo'd an NA. Just to see have they have to say. Cheers boys.
