I finally need to get me a new OS as ive lost my XP disc and cant be fooked with XP again.. ive built heaps of machines but havent bothered even looking at Windows 7 before cause im a slack farker..

I'm assuming 7 Home Premium 64 bit would be right for a home PC?? will be running SQL Server 08, Centura Team Developer, Visual Studio etc but wont be networked at all apart from the pronline...

my local wholesalers have it for about $138, is that about right? or should I step up to 64bit Pro for $178, or ultimate for $238

It's not much different to Vista, but has a few new tools and a few Mac ideas built in. We have been testing it for about 6 months so far and it does run much better then Vista, especially on older hardware. One of the guys at work put it on his Acer ONE netbook and it ran faster with 7 then it did with XP.

There is an XP mode built into 7 where you can run any applications that won't run under the new Windows 7 kernal, but you will need to purchase the Professional version to get this.

We have already been shipped the retail versions, and there are less versions compared to vista. The 3 flavours are Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate available in both 32 and 64 bit versions.

I'm happy to look after any forum members that wish to purchase a copy(or any other hardware/software), but not till after 22nd as MS would tan our hides, just send me a PM.

Cheers,

Ben

Yeh hey ben

Mate I am chasing a HP Dv7 2112 tx Best price so far is 1459 after 150 cash back if I pay with pay pal. And yep that is an Aussie model. I am waiting for it to have windows 7 on it. I take it 7 is not as ram hungry as vista?

Hi lairdy,

As not to break forum rules, I can't give you a price on this, but the price is good, so jump on it.

RE the windows 7 for that notebook, HP machines sold with vista up until the 31st of January get a free upgrade to Windows 7. I just have to fill in the paperwork and send it in. There will probably be some shipping charges involved, but they won't be much. HP will send you recovery disks for your machine to 7.

If you want anymore info, feel free to ask.

Cheers,

Ben

Ben it's a standard price across the board so theres no real problem in saying what the cost is....

Unless your selling them at a special price.

Keaton,

We got it in our MSDN pack 2 weeks ago. Are you still chasing a job? What skills have you got?

MSDN have had it on the download site for about 2 months for the full version.

I put Ultimate on my new notebook and it runs great.
