go for a full twin 2.5" with 4" dump if you have the cash. It flows better than the single 3.5" but it is best to talk to your tuner. they will tell you what they like to work with.

I'm not advocating skimping on anything, my motto is do it once and do it right. My point is though, that if you want 300-320rwkw at least, that you simply don't need an exhaust. When I said hiflow cat, I meant of the *cough* free kind;) Why spend $1000-$1400 on something you simply don't need? And if you'll need it later, good, spend the $1400 on something else you need and when you decide you want to make more later, put the exhaust on, you'll still have the parts you needed the first time around, so no money wasted;)

As far performance goes, single 3 will flow similar to twin 2.5. An exhaust doesn't use all of the available area in its diameter, its called laminar flow, and a single 3.5" will outflow a twin 2.5. The single though will be louder and dronier, so I guess its a matter of how much do you want or need. A split pump and twin 2.5, split dump and single 3, split dump and single 3.5 and 4" dump on any of the 3 will all make 500rwhp quite easily, so pick whatever best suits your budget and style and remember twins a quieter.

Your right there on the exhausts being noisier. I have the xforce single 3.5 with split dump and although it is good when it does get really hot it is alot louder than usual but still bearable, much noisier in the passenger seats front and rear than the drivers seat.

As far as the mods go I was mainly hitting on tuning as its anywhere from $600-1000 so if you have to do that twice it can also blow the budget.
