The Best Fuel For Your Xr6T

Bought the lastest Street Machine Ford edition and there is an article on the best fuel for your XR6t. They did 4 different tunes on the dyno with the following results, not sure of the mods done to the test vehicle but here are the following results.

98 Premium Unleaded = 298kw@w

98+E10 Premium Unleaded = 330kw@w

E85 = 350+kw@w

My question is where in Sydney are the 98+E10 and E85 available???

I have another few questions does E85 go off quicker than regular 98 ron.

ie lose its RON also can it cause gummy residue if left sit for too long.

( remember reading about this with Geea's car from memory)

...along with race fuel as well. Test vehicle was something from the dark side but still quite interesting.

I believe United sell the E85 and Freedom sell the E10 98, but you'd probably have better luck finding the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow over a servo that actually sells it!

Yeah the article said E85 burns quicker than 98ron but is 5-10c cheaper than 98, I am pretty sure it's ron rating is around 110 which is avgas territory!!!

Only really useful for drags/track car use. You'd be lucky to get 200km from a tank from it. If your fuel system was nearing its limits on 98 ron you'd be upgrading it to run e85.

Lets not forget that regular unleaded is fine for the i6T. Ford do all of its testing using regular, I know as my Father has recently retired from performance/emissions engineering department at Ford and as been involved in all the XR6Ts up to FG.

Some get on here and say its "horse piss" etc.. not true. Performance gain is hardly noticeable, economy can be improved with premium on highway especially.

If you can afford 98, get it. If you can't don't think your engine wear or performance is going to change at all, not that's noticeable anyway. There is this myth about premium fuel that its better for your engine... rubbish. 98 is the same fuel!! just with additives. Your more likely to differentiate your engines performance yourself on cold/hot days than with regular compared to premium fuel. Bravo to Ford for producing a world class engine that doesn't require premium fuel. Many cars these days do(especially Euro), meaning the economy stats they boast about aren't as good as you think in real $$ terms.

What I really don't like about this, is that it gives SOLID figures for the first two.. and then with the E85 it has 350+ (PLUS) kw@w.

Why the PLUS (+) if the other two are actual solid figures?

Did they actually test it, or is this just another 'theoretical' figure?

I hate comparisons used in car magazines.

Prefer to test and tune on the dyno myself.

The engines are tuned to run on 91 as you said but if you know anything about fuel its the fuels ability to resist detonation which makes the likes of 98 ron fuel the choice for these or any boosted cars.

The ECU gets signals from knock sensors in the engine which will retard ignition timing if it senses pinging or knock.

So yes 91 is fine on a stock car as the ECU will reduce timing for the low octane but as soon as you up the boost to produce more power you WILL NEED 98 ron fuel or you run the risk of engine damage due to detonation. Ask any mechanic or tuner and they will say run these cars on 98.
