Hey Guys, Ive been observing the forums from afar for quite a while but now I actually need some advice.

I took my BA XR6 Turbo out to Willowbank for the first time this week and on my 5th run as she went to change into 2nd, popped out of gear and I rolled the rest of the way. It wouldnt select and gears so I had to get it towed.

Now my dilema... The workshop had told me the gearbox is shot, apparently the oil from it is black. Im not sure whether to get a reconditioned box or a 2nd hand one? Any thoughts on the options? I would imagine doing an excahnge for a reco'd 4spd would be the best option but a bit more pricey.

Im in Brisbane,so if anyone know of some reputable transmission specialists or wreckers or something that would be helpful.

The car is a late '04 BA XR6 Turbo 4spd triptronic auto. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Jai

No point in getting a re-co. May aswell just do a full rebuild on what you got and stallie. Around 3k approx. Again what sort of power do you have and what you got planned. If going further than 350 + might be worth while investing in another transmission. Then you start talking some larger figures but may save you in the long run if you go for more power! LOL

:roflmbo:

Get your box rebuilt and get better clutch material put in, there may be kevlar clutches made for the BTR's now but Im not sure. Then, I know I keep repeating this, jam a big trans cooler in. I know they have one in the cold end tank of the radiator, but fit another one.

You should also investigate getting the pressures adjusted in the 'box. Will firm up the shift and should make it live longer.

Final thing ... service the gearbox. Easy to do and a hell of a lot cheaper than rebuilds. Personally, Id service the 'box 3000km after a rebuild and then regular services about 20000km.

Ive been told a pump in the gearbox has also failed ("ripped itself to pieces"). Im asumming its a Automatic transmission pump that built into the gearbox? Does anyone know some more information on these? im having trouble finding anything

The pump bolts onto the front of the box and is driven by the torque convertor to pump oil through the trans etc. Go a descent rebuild if you have the coin as it wouldnt be that much dearer than a standard rebuild and will save you doing it again in the future.
