yeah mate if you want you can leave the box in and hold up with a jack like I did when I pulled my motor out.. I also took my radiator out for some extra room as the FPV clutch is pretty big and you need as much room as you can get to pull it out with out with no scratches. its pretty straight foward :verysad:

For what its worth many years ago I had a brand new VN Late model camira company vehicle. I was driving home one night and the oil light came on. I stopped and checked the oil. Dip stick said ok so I thought faulty indicator and drove home for another 15 minutes. The engine souned ok until I drove down the side of my house where I could now hear the engine noise reflecting of the house brick wall and it sounded like the engine was full of loose metal!!

Anyway contacted the dealer fully expecting that the motor was ruined. The dealer fixed a faulty oil pressure relief valve, filled it will oil and I drove the car without any problems for the next 4 years and about 100,000km.

Sweet, that's what I thought. I have taken the radiator out too. I'll post some pics soon.

Thanks Geoff, I was also thinking this and it could be a possibility you know. When had a look down the front of my timing case the oil pump looked intact and when I dropped the oil yesterday there was no signs of metal.... maybe the same thing has happened. I've heard it happening to other cars aswell. I will still send it down to brad though... I plan on keeping this car for a while and will be aiming for 400rwkw, so a freshen up aswell and some new/tougher hardware should see it there reliably.

Here are some pics of my progress so far. As you can see I had a blown gasket on my turbo/dump pipe. When I first got this car I found that the flange was missing a couple of nuts on the waste-gate side, which I then replaced. This is obviously the result and you can see on the flange where the gasses have been escaping. I wonder how this would have affected my performance, spool times and boost control. I know that boost was creeping past its 14 pound setting (old owner told me about its tunes). I'm off to work for seven days starting tomorrow so she will have to wait to be hoisted out until then.

Ok so I am back from my week at work, now to get stuck back into it.

I went and saw a rental mob today and organised myself a 1200kg engine hoist for this week end for 5o bucks...bargin! So in the mean time I thought I would pull my turbo off to check if I had cracks in the exhaust housing due to bolts working their way out. I've taken it off and bolted it to a work bench and removed all the bolts except those at the oil return which can't come out with out fouling.

Now how the hell do you get the housing loose??? Ive tried twisting the center assembly from the compressor end, carefully giving it a little tap with a rubber mallet but the thing wont budge. Any suggestions?

Also I'm thinking its worth doing the port flapper and actuator mod, who is the people to see about this?

Did you put an oil pressure gauge on it? Hope it isn't a faulty sender.

No as both my oil pressure sender to the ecu and sender to my electronic gauge are in the same position it would be pretty unlikely that both of them failed at once, and as mentioned before there was a sound in the front of the timing case like gears not meshing properly. Brad from atomic said he as seen a few that have just damaged the inner rotor gear, which could mean for me a rebuilt pump instead of a new one.

Basically I want something that will pull 400rwkw (give or take) every day comfortably, so I think I will be getting the girdle as well and by looking through threads I will need to do something with the waste gate.

The other thing limiting me will be the clutch which will be done at a later stage.

On another note I can't speak highly enough of brad and his willingness to help and answer my questions each time I've called.

Cam, if you need me to crack test your turbo housing let me know, it'll only take a couple of minutes... takes longer cleaning the paint off it after testing it than it does carrying out the test.
