These were a set of ebay items I was testing. The seller guarantees them and assured me they were not like the other cheap units. He was right! The Borggs lasted 3 weeks. His lasted less than 2!I was showing my cousin how the new coils go and after 2 or 3 spirited runs, they started breaking down at 4000 ish RPM again. Off to Bayfords. Slammed in a set of genuine Fords and problem gone. I've now had 5 sets of coils in not much more than a year. I'm beginning to think something else may be wrong. The Latest GM LS6 or 7 seem to be used alot and have built in ignitors. These pencil type coils in the Fords dont seem the most reliable. I have never had one fail in two BMW 528i over the past 9 yrs and they are really tucked under the rocker cover.

I'm just trying to find the most reliable stock units that will plug and play for the majority of people out there running factory or near factory setups. Some people have told me they got 100,000 from their Ford coil packs. I bought some Ford genuines from eBay and they lasted me 3 months. I am now fairly sure they were Chinese copies sold in Ford packaging and labelling. So this time I've grabbed some genuine units from Ford. See how they hold up. You seem to not want to share your knowledge with your fellow members Danny, why is that? Why is that? I don't owe anyone anything. But lets just say the genuine factory fords have been in my car with only 1 coil failure.I'm beginning to think something else may be wrong.I've got some assumptions on why these are causing a early failure. But at the end of the day. My ford coils haven't really let me down as badly as the problems your having with coils.. Non genuine copies maybe. But ask blueboost what coils his running. Or the 2 Gtech cars.. or Adam hargraves car... looks like standard coils under there to me...
Taipan Banned 3 Member For: 15y 4m 14d Gender: Male Posted 23/10/09 10:26 PM Share Posted 23/10/09 10:26 PM (edited) Back ground: a number of fundamental changes and revisions have had to be made to the Weapon X Performance XR6 Turbo coils to arrive at the product we have today. These changes are regarded by Weapon X and Taipan Motorsport as intellectual property and cannot be listed publicly. Ahh nice, you were suckered in too..You should have bought "original" Honda/denso coils instead at 1/3rd of the price, rather than the rebadged weapon-x version. To clear this up for the members here:This product is not a Honda or Denso coil as has been claimed by Headsex, the weapon X coil holds a striking resemblance to the Honda / Denso style coils so we can well understand Headsex's confusion. Weapon X Performance holds a US patent for this product, which as common sense dictates would be without question or exception “imposable” if the Weapon X Performance coil was in fact just a Honda / Denso Coil or any other pencil style coil.Taipan Motorsport has the intention to become a sponsor of this forum as soon as our web site is finished. We will not engage in a public debate regarding the effectiveness of the Weapon X Performance coils for the XR6 Turbo. Any such debate at this time would not be appropriate. Also any such debate or comments made on this thread, without the manufacturer and research team that has worked on this project will only lead to miss information as it already has. Please note that fitting Honda / Denso coils to a XR6 Turbo vehicle as a member here has suggested is a very risky practice and theres a strong likely hood the result could be catastrophic failure of the engine ignition system under boost conditions at high rpm.Weapon X and Taipan Motorsport have worked very hard together to produce a safe and effective way to maintain a stronger ignition spark under high boost for these vehicles. To date our customer feedback has been outstanding. This product will be removed from ebay as soon as our web site is 100% finished. Again its not appropriate to continue commenting on this product by us at this time if you have any questions in regards to this product please contact us outside this forum until such time as we become sponsors. Thanks to the moderators of this forum for allowing me to make these remarks.Miranda. But after 2 or 3 months they are rooted again also I was at heathcote when the G tech car ran the 9.2 and the motor looks nothing like in the u tube video bigger turbo, nizpro plenum and it had no coil packs had leads running up from underneath the plenum somewhere. This is the reason I started this thread. People are reporting early failures of coil packs, no matter the brand. Where did you buy your genuine coils? Do you run with the garnish on?
