It seems that there are many XR6T's for sale that are less than 12 months old and are being offered at seemingly low prices on the private market. What long term effect will this have on the value of our cars? Should we be worried by this?

I'm not worried...but then again, I didn't buy with any intention of selling within 12 months either.

Depreciation is a killer for ANY new car, and the first year's the worst. There is plenty of truth in the old "you lose $5K as soon as you drive it off the lot" line. And like it or not, the options that cost you big money might make your car easier to sell because it's more desirable, but won't add much if anything to the 2nd hand value of the car.

Not having a go...just some things I've learned.

Could have been worse - you could have put down $50K on a series 1 VY.

I'm not whinging either ... just surprised at the difficulty in selling these cars ...

I have never felt the need to use a display ad .... and when I finally do ... it doesn't work

Oh well ... maybe Meg has to refuse the company car ... probable a GM* variety ..... and continue to drive the T (with that grin on her face  )

One thing you will find living in Melbourne or Geelong guys is that Ford employees can change over their cars every 6 months due to being able to trade in and get a new car for next to nothing, if any money changes hands at all. So this causes alot of cars on the second hand market in these areas! As for other states around OZ, its not a problem although you may get a few around from Melbourne or Geelong dealers shipping them to where they are wanted. Just relax and enjoy your car!

Hey Harasn

Sounds like a nice perk - maybe you could buy a few more for all your mates on the forum...we'd keep up the repayments - honest!

But you'd reckon Ford would HAVE to send the 6 month olds all over the country...to depress the resale market specifically where the things are built wouldn't encourage a lot of non-employee repeat business!

Second hand prices are certainly nosediving. At this stage I'm planning to sell the T at the end of my lease so resale is certainly an issue. I know a guy who tried to offload his 3 year old VT II SS with only 60K on the clock. It was in good condition and after many attempts to shift it by lowering the asking price, he ended up trading it in for 23.5K. I was hoping to get high 20's after 3 years so here's hoping the "cult" status really kicks in. After all, It's not JUST another falcon is it? ;)

That doesn't surprise me too much. Now that the WOW factor is wearing off (not for owners obviously :D ) demand is starting to catch up with supply (or the other way around depending on whether you're a neo-classical economist or not). Waiting times don't seem to be as huge as what I've read previously. So perhaps more people are willing to do the short wait rather than buy 2nd hand.

Plus, I know if I myself I wouldn't buy a 2nd hand sports car unless I knew the owner and their driving habits.

As for the Ford exec vehicles, I know I've seen a few of them in the ACT dealers. Quite a few used vehicles with the Prictorian number plates on them. Sending them up the odd truckload wouldn't be too exxey I imagine.

In the opposing camp, one of the neighbours across the road bought a VX SS ute from the auctions in Melbourne and got it delivered to Canberra inclusive of the price of $12000  That'd have to hurt the owners.
