(Hello to the Snowy Mountains Highway Patrol)They also go harder B) nice cool dense air! Wheelspin is a problem though, or not a problem as the case may be for your driving preference.Cameron Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/6229-snow-turbo-d/ Share on other sites

I'm hangin to go to the white stuff but don't know about fitting chains, maybe rent some skinny wheels? Nothing but grey and white. Will admit that HgAg looks pretty decent on the snow, although I imagine it would blend in with the environment well on a day like that. Definitely lights on material. At least you'd have the cardigan to keep you warm  Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/6229-snow-turbo-d/#findComment-50730 Share on other sites

Guest Mercury Guests Posted 18/09/03 03:13 AM Share Posted 18/09/03 03:13 AM I had a similar experience a few weeks ago, we set out from Jindy to Thredbo and everything was clear. 10 minutes later it's snowing heavily and just before you go round the corner and down the last hill into Thredo, everyone stops as a car has gone off the road ahead. Anyway they clear that and I can't get going again even an inch, those 18's are the complete opposite of a snow tyre. So we manage to use the car mats to get enough traction to get to the side of the road and walk to the Thredbo servo to try and get some chains, I know you're not supposed to but what choice have you got. The queue's out of the door and finally we try and get the chains,18 245 40 = 102 snow chain, which they don't keep, they only keep up to sixe 100. They could get the BP at Jindy to send some up in a taxi which would cost $100 + $50 for the hire. We walk back to the car and by the time we get there, the gritter and the plough have been through and the road's OK so we just drive in and ski all day and the road stays fine for coming back, but it is nasty to get caught.I saw an XR6 up in the Perisher car park a couple of weeks later and they had chains on, they were 17's and the make was Konig. I looked around a bit on the net and there are some companies making them for low clearance, http://www.topgear-sales.co.uk/snow_chains_micro.htm, these are 9mm whereas the Konigs are 12mm. So might think about getting some next year depending on if we stay up at Perisher or do the drive to Thredbo. Why don't they run a ski bus from Jindy to Thredbo ?
