I read on the forum somewhere else on the forum that there is going to be a revision next year, cosmetics and to make the I6 comply with emissions...

Its due in 2014/15, most likely 2015. There's a good chance the Global RWD platform will be fired up again as soon as Ford Global gets back in profit, which will probably happen next year or early 2011. Its been rumoured for a while that Ford have only put it on hold till they could afford to do it.

Rumour is that the FG platform will be the starting point for it, and it will be thouroughly revised, with different sizes and top hats (body panels) to suit its different applications such as Falcon, Mustang, Crown Vic etc.

that's the speculation, but nothings concrete.

Although Derrick Kuzac, Fords global engineering boss said after a drive of the G6E Turbo at the Proving Grounds that it was the best vehicle Ford made. If that's not good enough to base the future Global RWD platform on then what is?

Its certainly not the live axle Mustang or Crown Vic.

Initial planning starts next year for 2015 Falcon.

As mentioned above. Some time away. FG is a killer platform, any changes would be pretty small I would say.

Plenty of things they could do, its not that much of a killer platform.

Could probably start by increasing wheelbase. Move the front wheels forward and reduce the stupidly long front overhang.

Probably the biggest jump platform wise the VE had over the VZ was the wheelbase and tracks, all 3 of which are bigger than an FG. Wheelbase is nearly 100mm longer. Think of the added stability and cabin size offered there.

And think of the boat like handling and parking ability associated with a longer wheelbase! Even though the VE has a longer wheelbase and wider track the interior room is lucky to be 10mm bigger in any area if its lucky enough to be bigger at all!

Well... The VE has a bigger wheelbase, yet is 60mm shorter than an FG. So obviously it is possible. BMW have been doing it for a long time.

Rear seat leg room in a VE is bigger, whether it be marginal or not, it still is bigger.

VE also has a better weight distribution than a FG purely from the point of view that the entire drivetrain fits inside the wheelbase, whereas the FG hangs over the front wheel line. I would think getting more weight rear of the front wheels can only be a plus.

BA/BF was a big leap over AU and VZ. VE caught up and I think it was accepted that it was generally a better setup than BF. FG clawed back that difference, but it would be debatable if it was overall better than a VE. I'd put $$$ down that if the VE had a decent wishbone front end like a Falcon, it would be a jump ahead of the FG.

From memory when Ford was questioned about shifting front wheels forward for the FG, they said the money wasn't there for such a large change... Hopefully in the next model.
