Who Here Has A C4 In The Xr6T Pros/Cons?

Hey guy's looking at my gearbox now it's a 4 spd auto tossing up whether to spend money on it, or get a big hp C4 for the future eventually I want to make about 450kw@w. I am making 315kw@w now but I am about to change my exhaust and go to 330-340kw@w, I want to do everything once and not f*ck around with the factory 4 spd. Would appreciate some of your experience and opinions on the pros/cons of this.

There strong but remember you will be revving a 3000rpm at 100km/h uses alot more fuel. I like the manualusized shift with a b and m shifter. I wouldnt change it back but if you have to do alot of long trips and care for fuel economy then I would stick with your 4 speed

As you know, 450 on the BTR will probably not last for too long.

I know I've been mentioning this a bit lately but there will be an alternative in the next 2 or so months. This is the exact scenario I had in mind when I was looking at a transmission for my build. Basically, the only options available in "drag" transmissions are old-school 2 and 3 speed boxes. So you loose overdrive. If you don't drive it around much that might be ok but if it's a daily driver, it sucks. So after researching a fair bit and talking to quite a few people in the industry, I went with the GM 4l65e.

The box is a 4 speed but can be built to handle 800+ hp. Even off the shelf, they are tougher than your average 4 speed fitted to a car. They've got 5 pinion planetaries and were fitted to some light trucks by GM as they were built to handle more torque and load than the average car trans. We are also getting a custom bell housing cast specifically for this conversion which has been designed and is at the pattern maker as we speak. A custom converter with lockup will be developed as well. Initially, we'll be doing a "simple" conversion with a manual lockup button but there's a programmable trans controller that can be used if desired too. It all depends on how much you want to spend. Price is unknown at this point but it will be cheaper than what I've heard people paying for C series or Powerglide conversions See how we go.

They are also a heavier box so it will be interesting to see how it goes. good to see people are trying different things.

I run a powerglide which is very similar,I mainly cruise so it works fine for me.I just wish I did it after the first one blew up!!instead of wasting money with another 4 four speeds!!I like it being full manual with a b&m shifter also.

I agree totally. If it's just for a cruiser around town and a drag car you can't go past them or a glide. I think the money was worth it but obviously the price depends on how far you want to go with the box.

If you get the box built with billet shafts and what not you prob won't get alot of change from $10,000. That would be drive in and drive out.

yeah 9-10,I got mine alot cheaper due to the fact I did so many 4speeds so peter from gilroys looked after me,its a fairly big job
