Any particular oil rating?

I just topped mine up with Mobil Super 15W-40. God I hope I got it right, I'm pretty sure that's what the dealer said to use.

I had an awfull time trying to find the recomended type in the handbook.

What rating/brand/type do the people use around here?

I always make sure my Falcon (& my previous Falcon's) only ever get Mobil 1. I can't understand ford recomending a 15/40 with a turbo???

I still firmly believe that a good oil choice is THE most important factor in looking after your car. Mobil 1 may cost almost double the other top oils (shell helix, castrol magnetic) but you really get what you pay for.

Ford recommend/use 15W/40. I've been trying to find the Mobil everywhere but no-one seems to stock it. Where'd you find yours?

Grant I think most Mobil service stations sell the oil you want also Super cheap Auto has the full range at about 20% less than servo's.

Service manager said no synthetic prior to 15,000km service.

I'm using Castrol magnatec, and intend to for the immediate future. Old & filter changed at 5,000kms. Next at 15,000. Then each 7,500 thereafter, all using Castrol magnatec (atleast until the 20litres I pick-up on special is all gooonne!).

If you do a search of the forums, a fair bit on oils was talked about a few months back. In particular a fella going by the name 'DaveWA' was dispensing some damn good advice. He is in the oil game & gave unbiased advice.

This is an interesting topic. I dont have a turbo unfortunately, however I do have a highly modified 4.0L OHC N/A engine that I built from scratch.

When first running in the engine I used straight Valvoline 30W oil for the first 1500km.

Since then I have used Castrol Formula R sully synthetic 5W-60, and I have not had one issue with that engine since. I drive my car very hard, but I change my oil every 5000kms.

Formula R is about $15 dearer than Mobil1, but it has a greater viscosity range. My engine uses not a drop of oil (now done 62000kms), and is a powerhouse!! (well not as much as your cars, but 163rwkw, dyno dynamics dynamometer)

Just my experience with using synthentic oil early in the engine's life.
