As l was admiring a very classy BA Fairmont Ghia today, l couldnt help wondering how a Ghia with the XR6T motor would be awesome. For me, that would be the best of both worlds. B)

l think its a cert, whether its one or two years down the track, l think it will happen.

So when do you all reckon Ford are gonna do it? Would you buy one?

This would explain why you made a previous post about turbo lag hany and showed you had absolutely no idea what you were talking about.

After all, you are only 12. It makes much more sense now.

hey - we were all 12 once...

Remember the way in which women suddenly became interesting...

The way which all of a sudden you had to have a mountain bike not a BMX... (to impress the girls)

The way you realised that school might actually have something useful about it (the girls)

ahhh... reminiscing... :)

In any case, perhaps if FPV make something along the lines of the TL50, ie a limo with BIG brass ones... *grin*

Perhaps the turbo could be on that. Or a supercharged/stroked 5.4 DOHC...

People, wipe the drool off!!!

Can't see it happening! There are a few issues involved with doing this, that I don't think can be overcome easily..

* Exclusivity of the Turbo model - Ford and FPV have put a lot of work into getting the XR6T to where it is in the marketplace, and in the public eye.

* Build schedule (delays are bad enough on the XR6T, let alone a fleet of Ghias waiting around at FPV factory!)

* R&D costs - not just a matter of wacking XR6T spec drivetrain in.. they would have to develop new suspension, revise the brakes, and modify the auto box software

* Model lineup continuity against Expensive Daewoo competitors - there is no direct competitor for a turbo Ghia, the supercharged Calais is more a competitor to the n/a Ghia

Just a few reasons why I think Ford won't go this route.. and as nice as it would be to get the luxury and looks of the Ghia with the turbo underbonnet, if I was gonna go the "luxo-sleeper" path, I'd be inclined to get a V8 Ghia and look at supercharging. :)

l reckon the 'trickle down' effect may see it happen in a few years.

It would really allow Ford to compete with the Europeans; it would be hard to ignore for a $60k buyer. What could you compare it to?

Mitsubishi brought out the VRX and eventually that motor found its way into the Verada. Tickford sixes have been going into the ghia for a few years now, l know not as big of an engineering task as putting the turbo in the Ghia but shows a willingness to do this kind of thing.

I have been looking at buying a Fairmont Ghia and actually asked one of the sales guys when they were going to release the turbo version - he just went quiet and got very sheepish so I expect they will be doing it before long.

I think they will put the turbo in the Ghia for a couple of reasons ;

1. You can feel the extra weight of the V8 in the Ghia, it makes plenty of power but it does make the car feel and ride differently - the weight difference of the turbo over n/a six wouldn't (IMHO) make any difference so they could leave suspension etc alone

2. The Ghia end of the spectrum is probably their most profitable part of Ford's Falcon sale, (12k more for than a Futura for a Fairmont Ghia for leather, a set of wheels, slightly modded suspension and a few small extras...) so they will do all they can to shift as many as possible.

3. A lot of Ghias are company cars - some companies/fleet companies won't allow a V8 but will allow a turbo or supercharged 6 (thus the s/c Calais a few years ago)

No offence to car sales people but 90% of the ones that I've ever talked to haven't got a clue of what's going on in their product line up.
