Guest LionHeart Guests Posted 15/01/03 03:22 AM Share Posted 15/01/03 03:22 AM This is an article from a paper I found today.. Great read!! :o :o Obviously the Journalist knows what he is talking about... Turbo Falcon a GemBy Paul Gover..- Sunday Mail - AdelaideTHERE is a new-age superhero in the Barra Falcon family and while Turbo Man doesn't wear his underpants on the outside he has brought new muscle to the XR sports sedan range. The force-fed family fighter gives Ford a much more youthful approach to performance motoring - sharp looking, comfortable and surprisingly swiit. The XR, which looks a lot more refined, retains a muscle-car edge with the signature four-lamp front end. Suspension tuning, better brakes and the 240kW twin-cam turbo six do the best work for the XR6 Turbo. Well priced and great value at $43,965, it comes very well equipped with regulation air-conditioning and electric assists through to anti-skid brakes and traction control. Alloy wheels, spoilers and quality CD sound should put Turbo Man on a lot of shoppmg lists. The driving experience is terrific - a seriously quick straight-line car that will sprint to lOOkm/h in less than six seconds. This car is great fun any time you take the turbine to speed and the needle in the twin-caUl six towards the red. The engine is commendably smooth and vibration-free and the turbo conversion makes a good motor even better. It's great fun in second and terrific for overtaking on country backroads, although the gearshift is slow and you can feel the forces being fed through the gearbox, tailshaft and back end. Turbo Man can take some taming if you're rushing down a twisty road but it can be braked hard and late without turning nasty. . This is a heavy car and that weight will eventually take over despite the competent suspension. But there is a lot to like about the XR6 Turbo - Great ride and balanced handling. The latest cabin, too is a delight, providing a chance to finally sit down "in" the car instead of perching up above the wheel. The multi-adjustable wheel and well-shaped seats are as good as almost anything short of a Recaro upgrade. The new controls are well designed and work well, as do the dials, The XR also comes with great headlamps, real room for live adults and a huge boot - as you'd expect in any Falcon - and is noticeably quieter and more relined, even with the noisier Dunlop sports tyres. The Subaru WRX generation will find it more challenging to drive, because it's not an all-wheel drive turn-and-squirt car. But enthusiasts will rejoice in an engine with plenty of potential, Ford's engineers even had to de- tune the motor to ensure there was stilI room later this year for a "King of the Hill" 260kW V8 Falcon GT. Sounds like an action figure not a car Amazing how journo's get so many basic facts wrong, especially since they specialise in motoring and information is so freely available on the net.
