Hi,

I am looking for some help and advice on upgrading my brakes on my

BAII XR6T. Cant upgrade to Brembos yet, so looking at the other options.I have done lots of searching on this and other forums

and need some extra help. There seems a lot of misconception on what brake sizings are on each model and what actually works well.

I would like to upgrade the whole system to the PBR premos (kit # PK8 for cars with traction control). I think this gives me the larger C6 calipers on the front and the 325mm rotors. But the rear upgrade in this kit is still a solid 303mm rotor, which I am not that keen on.

The other option is to upgrade to BFI XR6T brakes. I think this will give me the larger rotors (322mm I think), but not quite as big as the C6 front calipers as in the PBR kit. But this will get me vented rear rotors (328mm I think), but using my same rear caliper with different mounting bracket to accomodate larger rotor?

What I am trying to say is I would like vented rotors all round, but

also would like the bigger C6 calipers that come in the PBR PK8 kit,

I know most of the braking is done by the front anyway. What are my options to get the best all round kit? But not Brembos yet.

Also interested in peoples experiences with these kits, either in PBR premo form or FPV BA basic brakes (same kit)or with BFI/II XR6T.

And any other help with caliper sizing on PBR Premo VS BF XR6T front and rear calipers. And also rotor sizings aswell.

Thanks if you can offer any advice.

eBay have front kits consisting of C6 calipers and 325 x 32mm for ~$1100 (pretty much the old factory upgrade / PBR upgrade). Then get hold of some territory vented rears/bigger single piston calipers. The territory rears fit on very easily....just need to cut the backing plates with a grinder or hack saw to accomodate the bigger territory caliper. This would be a good 1st step and you could upgrade the front to brembos doen the track and sell the PBR's for a reasonable price still.

Thanks guys,

Are the PBR C6 calipers bigger, by a small amount, than the BF XR6T

calipers or are they the same? I know they are all made by PBR.

Is there much of an increase in performance of the larger caliper?

What other options in sliding-style calipers are available?

I have seen a Ford Mustang Cobra with larger style calipers,

I think the saloon cars run these as standard in their race class.

Can anybody help me with a link for the rear brake conversion BA to

BFI XR6T. I am looking for any part #'s of different parts required.

Are the calipers different/bigger on the rear when converting to territory/BFI XR6T vented rear rotors than my BA rear calipers.

Thanks for the help on this.....

If the PBR kits are $1100 front only, why wouldn't you buy 4pot Brembo's for ~$1500 instad?

Would love some Brembos one day. But looking for something to pull me up better but still stay under the radar.

I think a front kit of 4 pot brembos is about $2500.

I can get the full PBR PK8 kit for about $2000, but I think I want the 328mm Territory/BFI XR6T vented rears for some reason.

I am still wearing down the stockies but they are warping on the front now pretty baddly. Just trying to get some facts and prices together.

This is your best bang for your buck option.

Also the ford PBR kits are not C6s, C6 are GM brakes and not compatible with our cars.

BA BF use the same caliper. C6 are more rigid and slightly bigger than the BA BF. The first of the T series used the other calipers you mentioned. My old man has these on both his 2001 mustangs and the pads used don't even utilise the whole rotor area. I use a 330mm RDA slotted rotor (off the early T series) and have an adapter bracket for the standard caliper. It's not that common to fond these kits at a reasonable price. The C6 option is a better alternative.

edit. Must be C5 then......there is a lot of confusion about this.

edit again....get vented rears, I just fitted them to mine and am pleased with them. For 2K you could get the C5 fronts and vented rears for that price

I know there is not much difference in size between the two calipers and I thought C6 was just reference to that they were first released on the Corvette C6. Then they were adopted by other manufacturers, such as HSV and FPV

Does anybody know what the PBR/BA FPV front calipers are referred too? As in part #'s or brake pad references.

They do not take the same pads as the PBR/BA FPV do they?

I guess one of the advantages of the BFXR6T calipers is that they would be more common and brake pads and discs would be cheaper to replace?

Any advice from people that have had a BA with PBR premos or BA FPV's then have changed car to a BF XR6T?

On a side note did BA FPV's obviously have a solid 303mm rear rotor aswell?

Thanks again for the help.
