Replacement Turbo Required - Questions

Thanks for all the great posts. I spoke to Paul at Elite in Brisbane - I asked about replacing the core of the turbo (as reading other posts by ETM that sounds like what I need) and Paul said I would need a whole new turbo and this would cost $3000 as well. I am trying to get to a maximum of $2000 for the fix which sounds very possible. I asked Paul about what if I supplied the turbo and they fit it, Paul said it would cost $500 which is good if I supply it.

How can I really determine or find someone who can determine if I only need the core replaced? Are there repair shops in Brisbane who do only just replacement of cores?

I am happy to have a go at buying a core or new turbo and trying to fit it but how difficult is it? I am worried that I would spend the money and potentially break the new part as well since I am an amature at this (even though I am handy on the tools). Is there a guide here so I can see how easy it is? If I replace the turbo myself do I need to have it tuned by someone (mine is stock)?

Brandon - How many k'ms has your turbo done?

MR Turbo Australia do exchange Turbos.

This includes a new Garrett bearing pack.

New upgraded 713C Inconel turbine.

Both covers and core cleaned and blasted.

Turbo all put back together and sent to your mechanic.

Best to have your mechanic of choice call MR Turbo direct.
