Bit of an update...took delivery of some Bilsteins and King springs from Senna T last week. Received them 2 days after payment, surprised me when they turned up at work I wasn't expecting them so quick!

Ended up going for 20" Bboss Eleanor's.

Car will be lowered next week but in the meen time here it is at stock height

Will report back with pics after the Bilsteins are in :)

Nat88s, have you fitted your shocks and springs yet? I'm trying to make a decision as to what to do to the car, and well, yout car is the same colour as mine and running on 20's too. so an update would help greatly. :blaah:

I have installed springs on a number of my previous cars myself, swift gti, bmw e21 and a lancer gsr. How hard or involved is it to fit them onto my FG UTE??

I dont really mind paying for installation of anything but I like working on my own cars and most places seem to qoute a price well over $600 where the springs only cost around $270. That extra cash could pay for my tint lol

Thanks

we do the installs for $550 normally, but forum members get the $495 package. It isn't hard to do, you just have to be careful with the front struts because if you don't clamp the spring and strut correctly the strut will shoot out the end and you could put a hole in a wall!

If you do it yourself, make sure you use two spring clamps (compressors) one on either side of the spring, if you only use one the spring can jump off the seat. IF you have any worries about doing it or you are not sure about it - don't do it, let professionals do the job right! Both suspension and brakes are not something to be taken lightly.

Got everything fitted last week..and man the handling!

Ok, I replaced the stock rims and Dunlops with the 20"s on Nankang NS2's. Instant feeling was omg these Nankangs are rubbish I really should have got some half decent rubber cause I felt like I was sliding all over the place and did not have any confidence when cornering at all!

I got the Nankangs for $260ea, the next cheapest quote I got for 245/30R20's was $600ea for Yokahama Advan Sport V103's, minus all the other no name brands I've never heard of, so the Nankangs was the only choice for budget reasons.

I drove like that for a week then gave the car to Ultra Tune who fitted the springs and shocks and serviced it too.

Instant reaction was WOW, it was a new car handling wise. I feels like every tyre is being pushed down to the ground so much harder than before, there is no skipping over bumps and there is very little body roll compared to before. I dont notice any over or under steer and I just feel so much more confident driving the car through corners and roundabouts. Im still getting used to how much more grip it has and keep giving it more and more in the corners, just to see how far it can go, its great!

My handling went from average, to awful to awesome.

Overall Im very happy with the Bilsteins and will probably fit them to every car I get in the future.

I have to say though, the car is not as low as I was hoping for or expected. It's probably about an inch lower and isn't really noticeable from the front or the rear. However, from the side it definately looks neat with the wheels. I guess the good thing is, I don't have any rubbing with all seats occupied and haven't scrapped anything yet.

Just washed it then so Ill take some pics tomorrow and throw them up.

I'de just like to thank Senna T who supplied the Bilsteins and Kings, I got a shock when they turned up at work I wasn't expecting to receive them so fast!
