Hi all,

I've got the same problem with my stock '04 BA XR6T. For the past couple of days, when I accelerate moderately or above and the revs hit the right level, the engine starts to flutter like it's not firing properly.

My mechanic has immediately said that it's "probably the turbo" but reading this post before I give it to him to look at tomorrow makes me wonder...

A couple of questions come to mind:

1/ Does the scheduled service cover replacement of coils or are they considered a non-consumable to be replaced when they stop functioning correctly?

2/ What are the symptoms and consequences of a turbo dying? How would I know for sure?

3/ Can anyone recommend a specialist with turbos in Melbourne (preferably Western or Central) who can give me an honest health check on the old girl?

more often then not its plugs or coils.

A dying turbo would make a grinding sound spinning up and also spinning down or no sound at all if its seized, to check take the intake off and spin the turbo with your hand and check for major play in the shaft both in/out and up/down. If they are all cool then bets are the turbo is fine unless its an actuator or boost leak problem. If your turbo died you would get no boost obviously and the car would be very sluggish and will probably idle badly.
