Hey Guys,

I'm off to New Zealand in just over a months time for 9 days and just hoping to get some insight from some members who have been as to what must see things I shouldn't miss out on while over there. I fly into Christchurch and from there have a car waiting at the airport and will slowly head down until I reach Queenstown.

I have a few things that will be done but just want to get some advice from people who have been over there, even some advice from our New Zealand members would be good.

Thanks

Well... Queenstown and the rest of New Zealand are two different things.

Queenstown is a tourist town, full of Asian and American tourists. This means that accomodation, activities etc are all more expensive than the rest of the country, and it can be hard to get bookings when you want them.

As far as what to do around that part of the country... most of the the things to do are around the scenery

- so there are the moeraki boulders (north of Christchurch) - huge bolders that look like eggs on the beach

- scenery all around Queenstown is fantastic

- If you feel like a decent drive, head up the west coast - very pretty, including pancake rocks, gold rush attractions etc

- In Queenstown - take a ride on the Shotover Jet Boats, Bungy Jump, Luge - they are all great

- skiing of course

- ride on the steamer in Queenstown

- trip to Fjordland for the day (or two) - and ride on the boat through the beautiful sounds there

Lovely place, but do try and get out of Queenstown and around a bit - the scenery in the South Island of New Zealand would be among the best in the World.

Did the same trip from Christchurch to Queenstown.

Did the trip back around the West coast over to Fox Glazier and over to Hamner Springs which is a little Queenstown with no Jap tourists.

Then we went to a little French village east of Christchurch called Akoroa(I think)beutiful there

Did it in 8 days in late Sept just after the ski season finished...

cheers
