Plumb back is when its plumbed back into intake and this usually gives you flutter type noise depending on the intakeI've got a Turbosmart Kompact BOV on mine which replaces the original bosch one. It is dual port which is both plumb back and atmospheric but you can block off either. Most BOV's can be adapted to the xr6's.

Pod style filter will get you more flutter, rectangle filter will whereas wont be any more differnt than the pod with sound but is better for performance over the pod style...3-4psi more boosted, will get you there. There are other options like under battery CAI off the turbo which most ppl go by also. Dunno mate, just some suggestions if you were to go in that path, depends how much attention you want from the blue bubbler's

It has a map sensor as opposed to an air flow meter so won't mess up the cars running. Basically it comes down to personal choice of whether you want noise or not. I have my factory unit venting to atmos.
