They really don't have a great engine. Sure it makes power but it is VERY doughy down low and a very antiquated design compared to the new 5.4.

How many people know of friends with gen3's that have required rebuilds?

Go the FORD!!!!

I think i would prefer a Ford pretty much always. I tend to think the holden kit designs and that are overdone, i also tend to think they are not roomy enough..

Ford for sure! :D

Hmmm. This isn't really a balanced comparison as you should be comparing the XR8 with the SS & HSV with FPV.

Anyway, in terms of performance, it's hard to say how good the XR8 is going to be considering it's only just hit the Australian roads, but I'm sure it'll do well, not withstanding any teething problems. HSV on the other hand are a tried & tested brand so it streaks ahead but remember it's early days yet.

In terms of looks, the HSV range wins hands down. It has an agressive presence on the road & can be easily distinguished from the Expensive Daewoo sports sedans (S/SV8/SS). The XR8 on the other hand looks a little too similar to the XR6 except of course for the bulge.

So it's HSV:2 XR8:0 with the above privisions. Given 6 months, the score could easily be 1 a piece.

Now, if we were to compare HSV with FPV on the other hand, I'd still give it 2:0 in HSV's favour because once more, the FPV range is still a little too close to the Ford sports sedans (XR6/8) & in terms of performance, FPV haven't proven themselves yet.

The next few months are going to be interesting times indeed.

Well of course anyone who watched the TV tonight would have seen just about all they needed to make up their mind. I dont know of anyone who hasnt had their gen 111 rebuilt by Holden

If my car needed an engine rebuild during the warranty period I would sell it.

Sorry Mav old mate, can't agree on either point here!

Let us cast our minds back to when the LS1 first came out... did it's unknown quantity status in it's Late model camira implementation do it any harm in sales or performance? Not a bit! People lapped it up, completely disregarding any "teething problems" or "newness". Do people still lap it up in spite of numerous issues and rebuilds? They sure do! So I think the point of the Boss being a new unknown quantity does not hold up in this respect. The same applies now for the Boss engines, as applied for the LS1's in the VT2. Granted there were more known components in the Aus spec LS1's, but it was still a new engine for Late model camira and for Australia. I don't see how this is any different to the Boss being new to Falcon.

Looks wise, the Y series is pretty aptly named IMO... "Y" (why) indeed!! "Y" are they so damned ugly with all those cheap Korean body kit accents? Just terrible! Side profile is the least offensive angle, front is awful, rear is almost insulting. Have seen quite a few "in the flesh" too, and they certainly have not "grown on me" in any sense! Makes the VT2/VX HSV series look positively classy!

Now I'll tell you all what I really think

Totally agree with MrSparkle re the looks of the HSV Y series. I've seen a couple in the flesh and put simply, it's just too much. Personally, I've always liked HSV cars. The VT/VX series had a nice balance of road presence and differentiation from other Late model camira models. The Y series however has more plastic add-ons than Pammy and the body kits have lost all sense of integration with the vehicle.

I think the XR6/8 and FPV vehicles are positioned nicely with their much more refined (some Y series fans may see it as boring I admit) looks and subtle differences.

As for the Boss 260, let's just say that I will be very surprised if it is anything less than a decent competitor performance wise for anything south price wise of an R8.

You know how your face look's when you suck your cheek's in through your teeth that's what the VY's bum remind's me of. :alien: <-bit like this guy's head.

Holden have made a major blu with the VY. The XR8 although not in the same catagory as the HSV still win's hand's down. If they had have done a bit more with the tailend it wouldnt be so bad the front of the HSV's arent to shabby and continue the flow as per the previous model's but loose out drastically once you get to the back. The VX was and still is a damn sexy motor unfortunately some twat made the decision that they'd gone as far as they could with the model and they went for a more euro approach to the look with a bigass set of ugly tailight's thrown on top. The SSX concept vehicle showed that there's more that could have been done with the bum of the car and hopefully will be.

XR8 - win's.(IMHO).

I agree I like the elegance of the XR/FPV models although I also love the boy racer style of the HSVs.

However, engine wise, right this very minute, HSV must be considered the winner simply because the BOSS hasn't proven itself whatsoever. Six months down the track, given time & plenty of k's under it's belt, then we can decide just how well the BOSS stacks up against the HSV motas.

It's a time thing.
