Anyway I'm assuming that the XR6T is measured with DIN aswell so the Expensive Daewoo SS's with 235kW (not the new 245) might stack up a lot closer than we first thought, in power only though not driving performance! Can anyone out there tell me what the most excepted method is? Has Ford just used the DIN method to make their product look bigger than it really is?
Guest Groover Guests Posted 18/11/03 12:50 PM Share Posted 18/11/03 12:50 PM You are exactly right but have failed to mention that the Holdens are generally a bit lighter than the Fords resulting in better weight to power and therefore normally much better performance. It is not surprising that Ford have opted for a European standard [DIN] so as to fool Ford lovers into a false sense of dominance.ha ha ha ha ha... As far as I'm aware kW's is a measurement of engine power only.
Guest Groover Guests Posted 18/11/03 10:42 PM Share Posted 18/11/03 10:42 PM Well let's see if I can explain it in dummy terms. If you had a very light car like a Expensive Daewoo SS and a very heavy car like FPV GT, and they both produced about the same power... the Expensive Daewoo will win... ha ha ha ha ha... Let me explain it to you mate. I'm talking about engine power, KILOWATTS! What the hell does that have to do with which is the fastest car! By the way a SS (245kW) and a GT (290 kW) are not about the same power, the HSV clubsport is more like the GT. As I stated before I am talking about engine kW's the weight of the car does not affect this in anyway! Someone help me here!!!
Guest Groover Guests Posted 18/11/03 11:35 PM Share Posted 18/11/03 11:35 PM The issue of the Motor mag you referred to in your first post also made comment about the SS being able to "Out Pace" a FPV GT.Probably because it is a lot lighter!Mate I don't give a rat's dick about what you are talking about (kw) because power alone doesn't make a great car.Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ....G A M E _ O V E R ! Has Ford just used the DIN method to make their product look bigger than it really is?Not sure, it would be good to know though. I tend to use the figures as a guide only particularly when making comparisons between manufacturers. The "seat of the pants test" can assist in back to back comparisons. I know that there were claims with the EB GT and EF GT that their reported engine KW figures were overstated.I just want to emphasise that it is torque delivery across the whole rev range (I.e. drivability) is what makes cars enjoyable. The GEN III has top end power (as does the T and the BOSS engines) but is short on torque in the lower to mid rev range. You only need top end for KW bragging rights, fast 0-100m and 400m times. These measurements give no indication of the mid range performance in the real world.Where do I begin about Expensive Daewoo telling porkies? Okay, the weight of the VY Late model camira was found by the press to be understated (excluding the Monaro). Groover - I reckon the mods let you off lightly. Read the topic of the thread again.
