I have removed mine except for the one around the turbo. I have had no probs what so ever. The rattle would more than likely be the ones on the exhaust under the car not around the turbo. They are there to stop the heat cooking its surroundings. Im pushing over 300rwkw and all is fine.

I have the problem in the F6 and had it in the T.

I took the T to ford to fix and when I got it back it was worse. Rather than just one broken strap, they had managed to break 4 of them by over tightning.

I would NOT recommend removing them.

Firstly, they are there for a reason and could cause a fire if removed.

The interior of the car will be subjected to undesigned heat and also if you parked on long grass it could also cause a fire. I am not joking...you should fix the problem properly.

I went to my local hardware/plumbing supplies and bought some BIG stainless steel hoseclamps for $5 each and put them around the shields and NEVER had another rattle.

I will be purchasing more of them to do the F6 as Ford seem to be unable to fix this simple problem.

While I am sure many people have not had any problems with removing the heatshields, they are there for a reason.

I had a heat shield rattle every time on a cold start...and it sounded like sh*t so I jacked it up pulled the heat shield that covers the cat off and cut the back 2/3rds of it off and refitted it and it hasnt made a rattle since. I know some people dont want to take it off because its their for a reason.....but have a think of all the people who have an aftermarket exhaust and who run high power and dont have the heat shields.......and they dont have any problems. I wouldnt remove the heat shield around the turbo though....the exhaust manifold glows red quite easily after some spirited driving :spit:

There are also heat shields stuck to the underbody so it's not like you won't have any if you remove the one around the exhaust.

I've had mine removed and there's no signs of any problems from the heat.

I have 2 words for this.

remove it.

I would not remove the heat shield, it is there to protect sensitive plastic bushes in steering shafts. You can take it off to have a look, its easy enough to remove, there is 3 bolts holding it on, 1 at the front of the heat shiled (where the split between the front and rear heat shield), 1 at the rear that holds some gold thing on ( I think its an earth point) and one on the side below the coolant reservior. Best to do it when its cold because if it is hot the metal has expanded and it will be extremely tight. I have the same problem but I think its the cat converter, im not sure.

Cheers.

I've left mine on and have no plans to take it off. It might look better without but it's best to keep the heat in the exhaust and shield the heat from the other engine components.
