Does anyone know where I can pick up a second hand ECU for the BA XR6T. I'm after the actual hardware component. If anyone is aware of any place in particular that has one (working) like a wreckers it would be a great help.

Thanks

as far as I know the ecus are mostly the same. I think it may be different hardware between the BA and BF but different varients in each model should be able to use the same ECU as long as ford program it right (or you should be able to do it yourself, but its rather expensive to get set up for that)

I was goin to buy new ecu I have been told that if u buy a 2nd hand unit u have to send it back to ford (melbourne) so they can load your vin number etc as it wont work......

from memory it was like 900 bucks from ford brand new

Thanks for the feedback guys. I am basically looking at cheap option to get around a licensing issue my tuner is facing with the the VCM edit software (beta). There's a 2nd hand ECU on ebay at the moment for around $80 which I might still give a try.

haha VCM is the reason I bought my second ECU. be careful with ford. every BA/BA2 I have seen them reflash comes back with no VIN. not sure if the parameter reset is going to reflash it or not though.

just make sure they know whats going on. if they are a good dealer they should be able to write the VIN to your current ECU with the IDS software... my dealer wont even answer my questions anymore so im pretty stuck :(

any idea who I would call/talk to about aranging this? would be awesome to be able to use VCM seeing as I bought it about 6 months ago >.<

I managed to buy a cheap 2nd hand ECU from a wrecker today... and the best news of all was the HP Tuners software was able to detect the ECU's operating system. The news gets better with the tune result but more on that later.

I'll find out more from my tuner tomorrow about what needed to be done regarding the vin number for others considering going down this path.
