I have been running 5w30 for over 2 years in my car running between 330 and 350rwkw, I have some very expensive bits going around and around in my engine and have ABSOLUTLTY no adverse affects from the 5w30. Granted mine is fully synthetic but I don't think the oil is a problem

Technically you mechanic is correct, most modern semi synthetics wont hurt a modern engine ( the first sign of an oil pressure issue the car would have let you know), don't forget the ford interval is 15000km's. If you are running shorter intervals and running a higher quality oil than the crap ford use, you will be fine.

I think his attitude is a good reason to move on though..... :cleanhouse:

I figure once I fit my cooler ect, Warranty is gone so I'l be servicing the car myself. The intervals between services is 7 500k's and the oil used is castrol full synthetic. Once car is tuned I'll be servicing every 5 000k's. Or is that too often?

I recently had a good think before buying my last hit of oil, I have always opted for Mobile 1 - 5W 50 fully synthetic, which the car seams to like and makes respectable power considering it doesn't have any major upgrades.

The Penrite book suggests using their 0W 60 fully synthetic... then I saw Mobile 1 was on special, so you know which one I bought...

Theres expensive oils out there, just have to try em all! muhuhahahahahah

muhuhahahahahha

NULON is all you need, especially if you are changing it regularly (under 7,500km)

Why spend twice the price for no advantage ?

Oh god...

I've been running the wrong oil (Penrite HPR15 15W-60) for the last 9,000kms and I haven't been exactly gentle with her (the odd squirt of the throttle etc).

Problem was didn't show much interest at the time, and the bloke in the shop recomended it (yes im a stupid git). Now im on the ball though.

Just looking on the forums at oil choices, soo much info. Decided to opt with the Nulon 10W-40.

I know this is a 'turbo' forum but would that be a good bet for my N/A xr6 ba?

P.S. My first Post so be Gentle
