I am looking at installing a temp gauge for the transmission as an idea.

I have a 4 speed auto behind a 6.

My plan is to get a adapter, T peice that will fit onto were the trans oil line comes from the gearbox,it will have a spot to hook in the temperature sensor and then hook up the oil line on the other end of the T peice.

Or

Cut the oil line further down and get the T peice in there and add the sensor.

Or

I will be getting and running a external oil cooler as well so maybe placing the temp sensor on the ingoing side of that maybe an option as well.

I wanna cover all bases with safety so I dont have any surprises. Whats peoples thoughts

Nice info mate thanks for that and the links to. where abouts did you locate on the oil line did you position it. Was it near the gearbox exit or half way along the oil line or where the oil line connects to the oil cooler.

Again thanks for the info and links mate.

I would have thought just before the cooler , but my tuner and mech , wanted to see the temp of the oil going back into the box ,so we fitted it close to the cooler on the outlet side .

my cooler was fitted up behind the rear left wheel with braided lines running back to it.

our06t, love your work mate. I am was thinking about mounting a thermo on the tranny cooler too.

On the subject of gauges, I was going to get an exhaust temp gauge as my 3rd but could get oil pressure or oil temp. With the oil temp gauge I could use it for engine or tranny. What gauge would be best?

With turbo cars I thought boost, fuel pressure and exhaust temp were the top 3. Would you got oil temp over exhaust temp?

don't know how much exh temp would help I imagine it would be bloody hot all the time.

oil temps would be my bet , engine and trans , plus boost

So going with mech advice the best side would be the cold side of the cooler so you know the temp of the trans after oil has passed through cooler?

Mate that is a great set up and with the thermo as well, well done. just a question about temp, what type of temp does it sit at on average.

Cheers for the advice bud made the job not seem so hairy now. Might even look at a thermo on mine too

fit a thermo switch to the fan if you do one, average temps , cruising 120f , heavy traffic warm day 150f , giving it heaps between 180-200f

Thanks Typhoon but already got that sorted, another question, would it work or be practical to run a oil pressure gauge as well on trans so for warnings sake loss or trans oil pressure is lost from broken hose or intenal malfunction, the motor and trans can be switched off earlier rather than later.

Save on further damage that could be done
