Mondie,

can you fill us/me in on the difference I running costs & insurance between you two beasties.

Scotty

Not as much as you would think Scotty;

XR6T comprehensive Ins was $450, GT is $750. Both with the RACV.

Fuel consumption was around 12.5lt/100 for the T. The GT with only 4000km on the clock is averaging around 14 but l think this will improve as it loosens up.

Maintenance wise l think they would be around the same with the exception of the brakes. Brembo brake pads/rotors are horrendously expensive through Ford, but l have found them for sale in the US much cheaper. So for front pads that may have cost me $200 a set on the T (prem brakes), l may be looking at $450 for the GT for genuine Brembo pads.

Only mod l am considering is an SS inductions kit next year as these seem to be giving excellent power increases and improved response on the Boss motors due to the free reving nature of the 4 valve heads, and l wont lose my warranty :censored:

My next ride will be a GT...the exhaust note is simply spendid...don't get me wrong the "T" is a wonderful car with lovely attributes...but growing up as a kid I always dreamed of owning a GT....who knows what the next year or so will bring...

V8s are great but I'm a big believer in value for money. I can't see the extra $20K+ in a GT or GT-P.

The way l think of it is, if you start with a $45500 base XR6T and add premium brakes, side airbags and 5x18" wheels (all standard on GT) then that makes the T nearly $51k. So is the extra 9k worth it for a GT?

It was for me ;)

And me! :censored:

Also there is the body kit, better quality seats, better drive train.....brings the 'extra $$' into a bit more perspective.

Insurance wize I'm about 30 - 40 dollars a year worse off for the GT ($820 for the T, $860 for the GT). Fuel consumption, 13l/100km in the T and I don't know about the GT but taking Mondies figure of 14l/100k, I won't be too out of pocket.

In all honesty if you can afford the GT, don't hesitate, the T is a bloody good car, the GT is just :o .................a GT! :o

Mondie, have you a price on the SS induction kit. I know the Herrod Zorst is about $3000, big bucks for 30kwrw :(

Insurance is a concern for me. Currently paying $1011 per annum, as a realtor I must be insured properly & it increases the premium dramatically as I'm 34 & haven't had a ticket since 1998.

The SS induction system is aprox $600 fitted, including re-usable BMC filter element. Value for gain.. it has no equal! My 1st reaction on hitting the Western Ring Rd after Herrods was WOW!!

I believe the Herrod exhaust IS complimented by the SS intake?... Better breathing In & Out!

 $58700 on road in July 03, for T with leather, auto, momo wheel and gearstick, mats, tint, scuff plates, h/light & bonnett protectors. Do 7000klm offered $49000 for trade on GT-P at full retail. Answer keep T and buy GT-P anyway.

Insurance with SGIO for T $645, for GT-P $1450. 45 yo good driving history (except for those blo#dy multinovas)

Hi Charlie,

Great to see you back <_<

Over on that other forum the SS kit seems to be giving around 12-15 rwkw, good value for $600. Doesnt mess with your warranty, can be reversed back to stock if need be and improves breathing, induction noise and responsiveness.

Did you get a before/after dyno Charlie, and did Herrods fit it for you?

Cheers!

Does the GT/XR8 SS kit still utilise the existing air filter housing system? (ie only replaces the under head light cold air intake)
