Hi all,

I drive an 03 T auto that has 96000km on it and is obviously coming up for its 100000km service in the next couple of months.

Does anyone know, if I were contemplating completing this service myself, does this service entail any particular checks or replacements of parts besides oil and filters?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :nerd:

Coop.

I did a 100k service an an EL XR8 that I had once.

Replace engine oil and filter.

Replace airfilter, or clean if it's a K&N, and fuel filter.

Transmision oil and filter. (Mine was 4 speed auto as well.)

Diff oil and power steering oil.

Brake fluid.

Spark plugs and leads.

Replace coolant.

I checked all brake discs and pads but they were all within spec so didn't change anything.

I checked all wheel bearings for play as well but all were good.

A good thorough inspection of all the undercarriage including suspension components, drive shafts and uni joints, all engine and transmission mounts, exhaust components and what ever else you can see.

If you have the owners manual with the servicing requirements just follow all that's in there as a starting point.

Hope this helps. :beerchug:

Yes all that + u may want 2 take off the heat shields and check the exhaust manifold bolts and all the turbo/ exhaust related bolts etc. The T's undo them like Houdini.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. Funnily enough they don't mention anything in the 'A' service schedule from Ford about replacing the filter/ fluid in the trans, brakes, power steering, plugs, leads, fuel filter, or anything other than engine oil and filter. They state that all of these fluids are just a check. How dodgy is that! :dontknow:

Might be a silly question but, is there no requirement on these engines for any internal replacement of parts (timing belt etc) around these kms?

When I have a close listen at the front of the rocker cover it sounds pretty noisy internally. Is they normally like this? It doesn't sound like a water pump or tensioner pully bearing. :stupid:

You have a timing chain. No belt.

THe noises cold be stuffed idler pulley bearings. Grab a screwdriver, put the end on the part you think is noisy and the handle to your ear. Make sure the engine is running of course. Move around differnt parts until you find it.

The checking of fluids might be beacuse they were replaced only recently. Check back through your records and see when they were done. You dont want to change the trans fluid if it was only done 10-20k ago.

Thanks Seduced, did not know they run a chain. Learn something new every day!

Bought the car 4 months ago and don't have any detailed receipts of servicing. Even if I did the services were doen at Ford dealers so I wouldn't believe the service invoices anyway.

Would a Ford dealer ever change the trans fluid and filter on a service before 100,000kms? Doubtful.

Do the timing chains on the engines normally get a little noisey when they get a few kms on them or is an the idler pulley more likely to be the culprit?

there is no recommendation from ford on the service interval for transmission fluid and filter replacment.

I personally get my transmission flushed every 3 months depending on how hard ive driven it.

other than that, if you dont drive it terribly hard I would recommend at least every 20,000k

the funny noise you are probably hearing is hard to diagnose from what you say..

could be quite a few things... idler bearings, noisey injectors, bearings in your water pump or power steering pump is what I would pick on first.

the pulleys that wear after a while are either the power steering pulley or the one dead center of the motor.. there the ones that are noisy on mine at the moment
