Tuned XR's stick out like dogs balls, big shiny cooler on the front, loud intake, and moderate exhaust noise is a massive yell out for I'm tuned!

Any car that gets pulled over has the potential to be taken off the road, and its going to be far easier to pluck a supercharger than it is going to be to return a tuned XR to stock.

I guess people don't like being unique anymore, and when someone challenges others ideals they get shot down. There is no fixed boost, it also rises as revs increase to a static limit, change the pulley and add other supporting parts an you can increase the boost. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isnt that what we do with out turbs, gee wiz it is.

If you want a fast car, build it the way you want it, not the way others think it should be done.

South, at no stage was the OP shot down, people were merely offering their opinion as to the best way to achieve goals based on facts.

Like has been discussed, legalities, power output, etc have all been discussed. Hopefully the OP will make some comments and let us know what he plans to do.

EDIT: When I said fixed boost, I meant, it's not as easy to change the boost using an eboost or to re-flash the ECU.. You've gotta physically change the pulley size, etc.

Simply put:

Kit costs you $8k min. No mention of dyno time or tuning there. Power will be around the 250-260 rwkw mark according to their own dyno sheet posted.

A stock xr6 turbo with Generic tunes for $500 will net the same result. $2k will get you into the 300rwkw area.

Supercharging will be fun, but likely to be full of headaches, and you will never see that money again.

Buying a factory turbo will see lower insurance, higher selling values, better results.

Supercharging an NA xr6 is like kissing your sister. Unique, but not something people will be impressed by...

...yeah but it'd be a great talking point amongst your mates!

The bang-for-buck is a bit sad, but if you're doing it for the experience then I reckon go for it. Be thankful that there's so many caring blokes in this place to help you make an informed decision I guess.

for dollar to kw ratio.... trade upto a turbo all the way.

depends how far you want to go with power, low 200-240rwkw is all that kit is gunna realistically achieve and at the end of the day it wont be as quick as a 240rwkw turbo.

if you want sumthing different go the blower, maybe look into the cheap Powerdyne kits capa sell as opposed to the Vortech kits... their not bad for the cash but dont expect a tyre frying monster.

if u can get a blower + tuned for -6K id go for it..... +6K id trade into a turbo straight up.

buy a second hand turbo kit off a turbo car, there are heaps around, you will pick up it all for around $2500.00, and will out power them kits from 1800rpm and flog them from then on, and can look as stock as a normal turbo car,

I have allways prefered the idea of a supercharged car over a turbo. No you can't make as much power but it linear and controllable that said air to air from my understanding is not as effective as water to air but water to air suffers more from heat soak but it isn't hanging out on display at the front of the car. Sometimes it's not how much power but the way it is delivered.
