Have a quiet moment with your car in the garage and ask it how its feeling. Like us, these cars need to feel the love. Maybe you just need to appreciate it a little more than what you have been doing!

This all sounds familiar. When I bought mine only a couple of months ago I had similar issues in addition to surging on light throttle which was pronounced when cold.

Boost solenoid clean seemed to find some power but only enhanced the misfire and surge. Cleaning of the throttle body (twice) cured the surge and in doing this identified some pretty loose hose clamps on almost every connection (hot and cold side).

Plugs were the final step. I Threw in a set of platinums gapped to 1.1mm which is how they came. BINGO.....went like a dream....until that is it got up around 4800rpm with a bootfull up it and the misfire was back again.

Pulled the plugs, regapped to 0.8, put them back in and problem fixed. Just maybe that is indicative of the coils getting a little weak but the simple reality is that it is now doing what it should without misfire, surge or other issues.

This sounds so much like the problem the BA's had early on where they'd overboost and start jerking around. Real helpful when trying to overtake.

When was the last time you had a PCM update?

I pretty much feel like im nearly out of options here, im guessing that I probably have to change the coils and the leads now, but I highly doubt that's the problem

Funny you say about the hose clamps cuz when I did take off the top turbo air intake manifold to get to the plugs I loosened all the screws I needed to but the one that goes directly to the turbo came off without even loosening :spoton:

ford do some dodgey pipe joiners, ill tell u that much, majority are all turning odd shaped.

sorry but what is a PCM udpate..

What were your new plugs gapped to? That would have to be my first question. If you have installed them with the NGK commonly supplied 1.1mm then I would be thinking that is most likely the cause of your grief.

Second.....was there any sign of tracking on the leads. It is worth spending the time to clean them up properly.

As far as factory ford hose clamps go, bin them and spend a little on the peace of mind that comes with a decent band clamp.

I got the genuine ford plugs...

they were/looked like the ones that came out from there to start with.

by the way im not very mechanically minded so what does gapped to 0.08 and 0.1 mean

should I have got different ones?

as its stock the 1mm gap ones u have are fine buddy

when u get her tuned u will want to go to plugs that the electrode gap is 0.8mm this allows for a stronger and longer spark when under higher boost the engine needs this smaller gap so the spark doesnt extinguish
