Instead of making the customer wait for Ford approval from the images, let the dealer do the work. Check the images after and if the dealer's doen the wrong thing, they don't get paid for the job.

Oh yeah! That's just silly!

You'd be happy with that if you ran a service centre would you?

People tend to lie when it comes to warranty and how it broke.

I am sure that the pictures tell many stories to Ford and the dealer.

wait let me get this straight.. Just say you have a knock in a new motor/seized turbo/slipping gearbox they take pics of it? how does that give them a clue what the proplem is when they look at the pics? bullocks to me

Just to get off the topic a bit but of course people lie about warranty, there would not be one person on this site that has owned a new car and at one point or another has tried to get something fixed for free by exaggerating or making a story up hoping that the service manager believes them and grants warranty repairs but on the other hand I can tell you that service departments at dealerships depend on warranty repairs for survival. For memory less than 15% of Ford owners bring their cars back for service after warranty has expired and less than 5% after the car is over 5 years old so they need warranty repairs for 2 reasons.

1. A customer will bring their car in under the false idea that if they do not have their cars serviced at a Ford dealership then they will forfeit warranty.

2. Service departments get paid from Ford for warranty work performed on a car in two ways, the get paid for labor (at a discounted rate) and then get paid for the part once Ford examines the part and agrees the part failed under normal conditions ( around cost to the dealership plus 10-15%). You can go to any dealership and see that well over half the cars booked for repairs on any given day involve warranty repairs.

So believe it or not often to do with warranty work the service adviser or the service manager could be your best friend and will try very hard to get work approved for you but I dont think that will be the case anymore.

If its got to do with anything that involves the internal parts of the engine, transmission or sometimes diff then a regional Ford Engineer comes out to approve work

I have never done that.

My dealer is fully aware of what's been done to my car(s) and have been nothing but helpful.

Dealers don't survive on warranty repairs because the labour rate they get is tiny.

Except that they could be doing jobs that they can charge a full labour rate on instead of needed that time for a lesser paying warranty job.

Warranty work costs dealers money.

I guess it depends on whether you're a glass half full or half empty type of person when you look at it.

I am sure that Ford reads the forums just like us and sees that xxx dealer repairs a broken diff on a 500rwkw car, you see several a week being discussed here and on ffau.

They would be stupid not to, warranty cost them a truckload and they are trying to reduce costs just like every business ATM. Expensive Daewoo just got given $200mil handout by the government to stop them going under.

I guess that we should be happy that Ford Oz can still make great cars and are not going bust.
