For the last 6 months my brother and I have been talking about a 1/4 mile shoot out...He owns a ss ute....

Well it's on next sunday at wsid...I need any advice on little tricks to pick up any kw's...Fitted V8 air box today...

Both cars are going to be std....

What I want to know is what air pressure to set tyres...street tyres 18 inch

What shift rpm should I shift at....Should I shift at 5000rpm where the car has max torque or should I shift at 6000 when the engine is producing max kw....

It's a 6 speed manual....what rpm should I take off at...2000-2500...how do I stop it farken axle tramping with out riding the clutch....

Plenty of family pride going on the line....anything else I should know....

Should cut a great light been playing with drag lights.....

Nick

A couple of questions. Is it the best run of the day as you may need to experiment a bit with tyre pressures, launch rpms and shift points to get the best out of your beast. Stock clutch is also a consideration.

What model SS Ute ? it will be close IMO.

1/ Try22- 24 lbs on the rubbber

2/ Launch @ ~ 2400 rpm. Don't dump it you will go up in tyre smoke

3/ Does launch control help FIIK

4/ I would look at shifting at around 5200 rpm allowing for the rev limiter and keeping it in the sweet spot

5/ Get going on the last yellow, by the time you move it will be green if it is a race.

If it's just for a time it doesn't matter until you break the beam. go when ready.

6/ Debatable how much benefit there is in doing a big burnout on the factory rubber.

Some guys swear by driving around the water ? Personally I would jut give it a blat to warm them up a tad and get rid of the water

Caveat. I am no expert on racing a manual FG , but this would be where I would start and refine from there

good luck. IMO he will get off the line cleaner and you will have to real him in.

Over to the experts

Oh and as said TC off :beerchug:

ve ss....my mate has a drag light tree and he said my car would take about 0.1 not sure on that figure...so he set it up on the tree and you have like a buzzer to press...he told me to go on second amber...

It's a private track day...so will get plenty of runs ...but would love to get him on the first one.....then the pressure is on him....

depending on how fast you shift I would be going to shift when the needle hits 4800rpm on the tacho.

by the time it takes you to change you should be spot on the money by the time it shifts.

I would probably be running around 20psi in the tyres.

try taking your air filter out as well if your that serious.

dont dump the clutch off the line, try to ride it a little bit then give it a boot full.

it takes a bit of practice to launch it properly but you shouldnt have an issue chasing him down even if he does have a head start!

he is a manual too.....Fitted the v8 air box today...the intake pipe is almost twice as big...the bonnet didn't close...Grabbed the heat gun ...heated it up for a while and shut the bonnet on it...perfect shape now....The V8 bonnets must be different around the front as well...not only the scoop????
