Silhouette shows the dust and looks dirty all the time - however the real dirt ie tar and bug stains are hidden, and this makes the car actually easier to clean - I was presently surprised by this when I got my Silhouette T3. My white cars show tar stains all the time and are a real pain to keep clean.

As for manual or auto? - no contest. The manual every time for me. The fantastic sound of the XR8 going through the gears can't get any better than with a manual.

Could not agree more, have a Winter White T ( looks fantastic when clean), that shows every mark, bugs, tar the lot. Just finsished washing, scrubbing and chamoising the beast to a lustrous state, went inside for an ice cold lager refreshment , came back ouside to find the Tee covered in bird S*#t , not a tree witin bulls roar.

Damned SS / wrx attack magpies I reckon . D'oh

I took a XR8 manual for a PD drive the other day, and I didnt like it one bit. It was very hard to drive smoothly. Maybe because it only had 2 klms on the clock and everything was still tight, I dunno. Maybe I could get used to it after a while. I can drive my s/c XC a lot smoother than the XR8, and the clutch in the XC aint exactly user friendly.....

Geex Baz, your current car is barely run-in yet! Go the Phantom and then come around and take me for a drive. We will have to find a nice quiet back road somewhere and find out which car is quicker.  Are you taking it straight to Herrods for extractors and exhaust? Are you going to put the 19s on the XR? Personally, I wouldn't, but it's your car so you can do what you want..

Ross,

Yes I will be having the Herrod exhaust system fitted prior to delivery

but I am in two minds about lowering it like the XT.

Both cars have the factory 18's fitted so I will leave those on.

I am leaning towards the Phantom Auto because it will be just that little bit easier to keep clean and I think it might reduce the temptation to play with the right foot a bit.

Thanks to everyone for the opinions, you have all made it that much harder but I suppose it is my call in the end so I will have to live with whatever choice I make.

Decision time is tomorrow, I'll let you know what happens.

Cheers, Bazza.

ps: The XT now has 24k on the odo.

Be patient Ross,

I am in the process of confirming details with my Leasing company so I should have some news soon.

One thing I have found is that the XR8's don't have anywhere near the lowdown grunt of my XT but up higher it is all over red rover.

Cheers, Bazza.

Yes you mentioned that lack of low down grunt thing when you last let me loose behind the wheel of your car. They couldn't be as bad as Gen3 Commodores, they don't start to go until you hit about 5000rpm! Your XT is very nice down low, noticeably better than the Turbo, but hasn't quite got the same midrange or top end power as the T. I haven't driven a BA XR8 so I will be very curious to see what they are like.
