Hey all...

Good mate of mine owns an auto VE Maloo... done around 15,000kms, bought it from new... recently got it back after it being stolen. Not too much damage but returned with rear tyres looking like slicks!!!

Ever since getting it back... under real heavy acceleration it just loses power, almost trying to shut down and then runs like it has cam work until he shuts it down and restarts it. Then no problems. Until he gives is WOT again. I believe its happening when it gets to around 3 gear or so and he's still accelerating... then its just like the engine tries to shut down.

Expensive Daewoo have looked at it and had it on the diagnostics but can't find a fault... anyone got any answers? I've heard of cars now having "limp" or "Safe" modes... could this be it?

I know its a Holden :Welcome2FordXR6t: but just trying to help him out.

Thanks guys...

Thanks all for comments...

Kirjo - Yeah perhaps, said wasnt alot of fuel in it when stolen and virtually empty when found... they only had it for a few hours before found left in a car park. The police found it after it got reported for doing burnouts

DjDsTa - Pretty sure he said they broke in the house and found the spare key... unlocked it drove off and even polite enough to wave at his neighbours as they went by!!!

Lowfly - Will mention the battery option... worth a try and cant hurt... also yeah cheers will do a search on the LS1 forum

I've heard of stolen cars that come back after a flogging with glazed bores. Basicaly they do burnouts til the thing boils, then keep going. Oil gets past the rings and burns to the bores. Later this causes early detonation in the cylinders, which can cause the computer to retard the timing or go into limp mode.

Unless they check for it, they won't see it.

This is just one reason I wouldn't want my car back after it was stolen.
