Hi,

Been thinking about what to do and how it could be done. Fronts are easy sorted with a set of splits but then what to do about the bass? I like bass but then again do not want to drive around and feel like someone is kicking me in the back constantly.

I have not seen this done but I think it is very possible and has a few benefits for me. I like the space behind the ute seats as I often use it to put things behind there and out of the way so not having this space would be unpractical to some extent. So I thought rather then run a single 12" or 10" behind one of the seats, why not run an 8" either side in the same location as the factory rear speakers. Another issue I have is that my seat is always moved back all the way, so the space behind the seats is not that great anyway, would struggle to build an enclosure with a volume of 1cf.

There is heaps of room where the factory 5x7's live, even for an enclosure to be built. Looking at something like the JBL GTO804 8", they should work very well in a small sealed enclosure?

Any feedback from audio buffs is appreciated.

Cheers.

you will be suprised at how much space is actually there. I have two tens and an amp in an enclosure I made myself that covers most of the back wall. It is the correct volume if not bigger and I can move my seat all the way back. I have enough room between the enclosure and the rear speakers to put a fire extinguisher on one side and a couple of cd cases on the other. As of space to put big stuff.... you own a ute, keep your cabin tidy and put it in the back, if you have a cover of course. My sugestion is if you want to keep the room behind your seats, make an enclosure that houses a slimline 10' sub and an amp and mount it in the center, between the seats. Or you could mount just a sub in there and put the amp under the seat.

Cheers

Cameron

My sub box is behind the passenger seat, It's like a slant where the sub sits so its not square and you can still pull the seat right back with out squishing it :)

And if you don't like the feeling of been kicked with bass then why do you want subbies lol

I Had 2 12" R-Types in my BA mk2 XR6 ute, one behind each seat, and the amp in the centre.

Couldnt put the seat all the way back but I dont anyway.

And pulled 137DB

Hi

I was faced with a similar issue... so here is what I went with.

A 4 channel class AB amp mounted on the wall behind the driver, a D class for the sub squished behind the center console (it just happens to fit perfectly), and a ported isobaric subby behind the drivers seat. I can't put the seat all the way back, but that's by design because I prefer it a bit forward so I just made the box square and the appropriate size...

So I used most of the the space behind the drivers seat, which is not useful for storage anyway (bugger to get at when your in the drivers seat). The only downside to this is that the sound is not the same for the passenger, in my setup it is very different, but you may have better luck.... I still have all the space behind the passenger for storage, which is enough for me.

Anyway just one take on a common problem

Good luck...

got my amp under the drivers seat to save space and a 10inch JBL sub on each side. Was told if its a sealed enclosure size doesn't matter to much. still heaps of space between the two sub boxes and room on top of the boxes too.

I feel your pain. I'm going through the same thing ATM, but in my FG. I as you mentioned the 5x7' I believe that you have a BA/BF.

I want to keep the space behind the seat too as its great when traveling.

As mentioned in http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.ph...18&start=18 I'm looking at the following set up:

Option 1

Front - Alpine Type R Splits SPR-17S

Rear - Alpine Type R 5' x 7' SPR-57C - Prob end up being SPR-17C

Amp - Alpine MRPF300

Approx - $1250 installed

Option 2

Front - Focal Polyglass 165 VRS

Rear - "Focal Polyglass 5' x 7" however I havnt found these speaker in the catalogue he gave me. I believe they will prob end up being 165CVX.

Amp - Alpine MRPF300

Approx - $1499 installed

With a Focal BUS25 underseat sub for $700.00

I will also be Dynamatting the doors, I did the rear walls last week and it makes a bit of difference.

As the FG have 6inch speakers in the B pillars I wont end up running the 5x7'

The amp will be connected using high level out from the factory head and the sub is self contained. Amp to be installed under driver seat.

This set up was designed with budget and space while trying to use the factory locations. I'm looking at buying premium audio A pillar trims (for the splits) but Ford are asking $100 a set (standard A pillar trims are $30)

Thanks for the feedback people.

I want bass but I do not want it to shake my car to bits. I am more after sound quality rather then volume and pressure if that makes sense. While I am at it I plan to dynamat the about 3/4 of the cabin to get rid of the hollow sound and also block out road noise.

I am doing all this myself so will experiment and see how it goes. If I could pick up a couple of factory premium sound 8" subs I would build the boxes and put them in and see how they sound. If I am happy with the fit and sounds I'd replace them with better 8" like the JBL one that everyone with premium sounds in a sedan is upgrading to.

mickgibbo, I already got ute premium sound so got the a pillars with tweeters. I have not decided on the splits yet, I'll have to listen to a few to see what I like.

I also want to put my amp under the seat, the amp I got will fit just. Planning on running everything of my single 4ch amp. Bridging the rear channels gives me 170wrms at 2ohm so should be enough to drive to little 8" subs.
