So, that's why I was interested in the possibility of buying a car with a defective paint job. But from what I have read above, red used to be a colour with problems, but they have since fixed it. So, it should be good to buy.Funny thing was going from a BA Mk11 auto to the BF Mk11 Typhoon 6sp manual was lets say an interesting transition.. I don't think the dealer was used to my driving style.. lol. Thanks all. will keep you posted. aiboart Member 665 Member For: 20y 5m 14d Posted 02/08/09 01:04 AM Share Posted 02/08/09 01:04 AM I have owned many several red cars, including euro's, Falcons and Holdens. As noted in a previous post, the earlier red paint technology was certainly prone to fade. Your best bet at checking out the current state of the technology would be to ring some major panel shops and ask their opinions. The panel shops need to match paints when they undertake repairs, they will be able to tell you if fading is still an issue with the current red paints.Another alternative is to ring the technical department of someone like Degussa or Merck. These companies manufacture the actual pigments that are used by paint companies such as PPG and Dulux. South Member 323 Member For: 18y 9m 6d Gender: Male Location: Perth Posted 02/08/09 01:08 AM Share Posted 02/08/09 01:08 AM Red is very hard to colour match for if you are ever in an accident.Boss has a Red XR8 that has been crashed about 6 times, and every single panel has a different shade of red, none of the panel beaters can match the original colour.
