dr_g Member 8 Member For: 21y 7m 26d Posted 05/09/03 01:17 AM Share Posted 05/09/03 01:17 AM I have been enjoying my T in standard form for the past 4000ks. Ive read about the many different mods people are doing and the different avenues people are taking to personalise and improve their car. I want in. My first concern is who do I see? I dont want to get ripped off or pay for a modification which will damge my car. I was looking at simple changes like removing centre muffler, pipe work, air filter and BOV. What can I expect to pay? I live in Sydney, any shop reccomendations from fellow members?Generally speaking, will this afffect my insurance? (im with Fordinsure)Any insurance company more accepting of these mods?A sincere thank you to all members for your sharing your advice, experience and humour. Im young and hope to learn from your mistakes...

It won't make it go any better and if you get one that vents to outside instead of plumbed back in like the factory it's illegal.

They might not notice it at service time but if their engineers go over the car to see why something failed I think your game will be up.Now the warning has been said. A few people have looked at some simple mods such as removing the centre muffler - in fact there is a thread running at the moment discussing it so you may want to have a look here http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.ph...?showtopic=5641By pipe work I guess you mean making the airflow more efficient by modifying the piping to the turbo and intercooler? Here http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.ph...?showtopic=5641 is a discussion about K&N air filters, I believe rampod filters are illegal.BOV won't see any performance increase with the level of boost that's being run in our cars, but if you want to spend $300-$400 for a noise then it's your decision.I'd say simple things like you're suggesting won't have an impact on your insurance, it's when you really start making changes that you'll need to start looking for another insurance company. Who did the work? Were you happy with the service and result? ...or is that a silly question

I have spent a total of $1200 and now have 230kws at the wheels. Be warned, if you have a manual, be VERY careful. I have said it before in another thread, it is starting to make funny noises (and getting louder by the day!) already after a week and a half......But the power is absolutely unreal - roadkill central.... Insurance, not a drama. Warranty? Should not even be a consideration in the same sentence as modification. If you want to modify your car - deal with the fact that some warranty will walk.... fact of life unfortunately and one that I am prepared to live with. What do you think Ford will say when/if my gearbox dies??
