Do they reprogram the ECU or is there a extra chip?

There is an extra chip, which is wired in (somehow). I don't pretend to be an expert on this... There is also a boost controller. I assume the blow off I can hear is the standard valve, but I could never hear it before. :D

On ya Gareth

Please do get the beast dyno'd & post the results.

Powerchip 98 for the XR6T is a piggyback chip.

Gareth, which city are you in, & who did the install? Was the wiring from the piggyback chip spliced in to the existing loom or via a new "double-a-dapta" plug (for want of a better phrase)?

Well, the chip appears to be wired in to the existing loom. It was installed by Powerchip technicians (who come to Sydney - I live in Sydney - each few weeks to do installs). Unfortunately I never got around to dynoing the car pre the install. I meant to, but just didn't have time.

I did a 1,000k trip over the last 2 days. Fuel economy on the freeway (cruise control at 110 odd k's most of the time) was average 8.3 litres per 100 k's which is a couple of litres better than I have achieved previously. (Car has just clocked 10,000 k's).

I did some spirited driving yesterday (in an appropriate place) and the performance was just great. Not too many (fairly stock) cars would match straight line speed I don't think. Fuel economy... about 27 L per 100k's.

Overtaking is awesome, the hardest thing is to take your foot off the "loud pedal" as it just wants to keep going. The torque seems huge.

Sounds great too. seems like a bit more turbo and induction noise and even exhaust note. You can hear the blow off valve when you back off too.

gareth,

is the piggyback chip the only modification performed at this stage :tears:

When the chip is installed the process includes adjusting boost and some fuel supply modifications. I've also fitted a BMC air box/filter.

Not dyno'd yet, as I've only had it a few days. When is the next dyno day I wonder?
