I would say that once they hook the car up to the computer, they'd know a fair bit about what went on there. So ... the bottom line is .... Will it affect warranty ??

Yeah, that's what l'm wondering too.

l have no doubt my warranty would be about as useful as a chocolate teapot once Ford sussed out that!

Just to quickly answer the warranty questions:

Firstly, our modification for the XR6 Turbo will involve a re-programming of the existing ECU - that is, no physical changes. We do not add or remove any hardware from the ECU, we change what is stored on the 'memory chips' inside it. Hence, it is physically undetectable - your dealer cannot tell it's there by simply looking.

Secondly, our upgrades are also electronically undetectable. Most ECUs include 'checksums', which are an electronic way of checking that the ECU has not been modified. We are able to trick these checking methods, so that even when your dealer plugs in their diagnostic equipment, the ECU reports the chip as being completely standard. European manufacturers such as BMW, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz and Audi have extremely complicated checking methods, and due to the technology investments we have made over the years, we can bypass even these complicated checks.

Also, as a quick follow-up, we are now talking to two forum members about the possibility of developing a chip - once a product is fully developed and tested, I will make sure that this board is notified. Thanks all for reading :)

Kind Regards,

Mathew Kilham

l am talking with powerchip at the moment about using my car as the guinea pig.

What do you all reckon of this?

l have no experience with chipping cars. Anybody have past experiences they can share, improvments noticed, warranty issues, experience with Powerchip themselves etc. My main concern is maintaining warranty, any thoughts on this?

 Powerchip did the upgrade on my E34 BMW 535 a few years ago , it certainly made more torque lower in the rev range , it made the car much more driveable and reduced the fuel consumption and stopped constant pinging . From memory the cost was less than $500 .

Do you think it was worth the money? I believe this one will be around the $990 mark

CJF077 , at the time I had the upgrade done on the BMW (1997) $500 was cheap for any performance increase - torque increase was almost 15% - horsepower a little under 10% , I also replaced the muffler with a free flow unit - generic brand and fitted locally for about $200 .

To get the same increase from the factory (injectors - fuel pump - intake system - exhaust system and some other items was almost 6k )

The vehicle ran a lot better with the Powerchip and I probably saved half the price of the unit just with the better fuel consumption .

If I had a new XR6T and was looking for more performance (and the fitting of the chip was undetectable ) I wouldn't hesitate to have it installed .

Thanks Esky, that's food for thought!

l thnk l will give it a miss until a commerically released chip is available and Powerchip have got some runs on the board. Thanks for bringing the article to our attention.

Talk about being drilled, that's what happens when the Managing Director (MD) thinks her knows it all. You would of thought he would have invited one of his engineers to the meeting to back him up. If any of you guys decide to give them the car for the day, I'll would first be asking questions like WHAT IF MY ENGINE BLOWS, what if there is computer damage, what if, what if, etc. and who is liable to pay for any damages.

Rather than the MD answering the questions at a MD level, he decided to talk on behalf of his Monash University programmer and screwed the whole interview up. You just need to take a look at the picture of the of himself on page one of the interview, I bet that was taking after the interview, he didn't look to happy, did he.

I might be a little harsh here, but why dont they go and buy their on XR6T and do developement like a few other tweakers are doing from what I have read on some of the other pages on this fantastic forum.

The MD mentions development in his interview, I can recal that a request for a Victorian XR6T was required for one day, that must be a lot of development.

All I can say is be careful dont rush into getting some extra power.
